    Grain Company's

Evolution of business, some fellow has a brain wave, produces that product, a small family run business becomes successful, business booms! They expand business booms again! They are in the big leagues, they need cash for there next expansion, they go to the markets to raise capital, issue shares, etc.

The Cargill's, Richardson's, Paterson's Parrish & Heimbecker's, Louis Dreyfus', etc of the grain trading world never had to issue shares to raise capital.

    Interesting...

why blame it all on the railroads? There
was an extra big crop, and a pretty
brutal winter, weather related. How many
of you hauled grain when it was -30 or
colder, and how many of you went off to
        somewhere warm.

You can't haul grain when the railways
don't haul. I don't book grain to be
hauled when its likely to be minus 30.

They did call for November flax when it
was cold in February. I took my time
          trying to get everything running.

If the system was built properly winter
hauling would be done when weather
permitted. Its not as farmers are being
told to build bins which means more
          winter crap.

Wish the goverment would come up with
better cca on bins. That would be a
          simple helpful fix.

bucket, you can do it in 2 years with a
            lease. Pretty good actually.

Westward "why blame the railroads" What
              are you ****ING stupid???

They are the ONLY single piece of the
system without surge capacity. Who else
              would you blame????

Go lease out some more Locomotives
              Hunter! Grrrrrrr!F®#$%&!

Leases can be looked at by cra as
                capital purchases and be re-evaluated.

Interest is high as well. Sure you get
the deduction quicker with a lease but
your cost is low and when/if you sell
                recapture could hurt.

Westward, If there was such a large crop then why did the railways layoff hundreds of workers, mothball locamotives and sideline hundreds of grain hopper cars. If you were interested in providing service to your customers, I'd think you'd do the opposite on each of those three accounts. And if it was a cold winter, you'd lease even more locomotives, particularly if you thought shorter trains were required. (Still no one has explained why the cold weather didn't distrupt oil tanker shipments, 100 plus cars ALL winter!) The railways are to blame and the graincos are taking full advantage of farmers. This situation with basis is now spreading throughout North Dakota and further.

Railways have ripped out double track,
laid off 1000s of workers, leased out
100s of Engines because:-- The world
needs less Oil? -Less Potash? -Less Coal?
                    -Less Grain? Ya right.

And now their response is "Look
squirrel". Is it any wonder the rest of
the supply chain is a bit angry?

I have not heard of any leased being disallowed.
My understanding is that the courts to date have
                      deemed them to be legit.
If anyone has information to the contrary I would
like to hear it. They have been an important part
of my bin acquisition program. Also used for a
                      shed as well.
Yes the interest rate is too high considering the
low risk. They do it because they can.

First line should read " have not heard of any
                        leases being disallowed"

And grain companies are silent because...

""The big issue is, a lot of people aren't going to talk about it because they fear retribution from the railroad," Tinkham said. "If you have one railroad coming to your house and you badmouth them, what do you think is gonna happen? That's a legitimate fear. Whether it would happen or not is another ball game. You take that risk."

Westward, and how the ***...did you make it to
work this winter? What an automobile that can
                            operate at -30

Are snow avellanch delays tracked, seems we
have had less snow than other years, that used to
be one of the major problems?

I do In fact haul when it's -30 or colder, plus move
snow every day, etc. When the terminals call for
grain latterly I on average have 3 or 4 days to
bring the grain in or they are full again or the
orders change, Until they are full waiting for the
                            next train.

I assume that many of the locomotive are never
shut off, that would be stupid. Imagine Harrison
missing that opportunity to save, slow, and piss
off. Turn the engines off when not moving, what
                            could go wrong?

Like they have in Canada in front of MPs.
