What's up! Why some are pushing the new seed rules!

    wd9,

Yes farmers already do have a large stake in development of wheat varieties in western Canada. WGRF. Alberta Wheat Commission GF2 $25M Science Cluster progam. Alberta Barley Commission Science Cluster funding and the Millions spent in Lacombe AFC research station with cooperation of Alberta Ag.

Asking for a return from those who benefit from the advancement in genetic enhancements we pay for.. to continue value based grower backed funding... should be a 'no brainer'.???

If we won't put our money in... why should people who have no personal reason to fund wheat varieties?

    What have I missed???

    Re: brown bagging canola

You used to steal canola genetics for your
personal financial gain by not paying
royalties to the holder of variety?

Which rule are you referring to
specifically that will make you buy seed
    every year?

Maybe it will be the elevators will only take delivery of
      their ip varieties.

Seems pretty obvious what is happening and Sask is
      right.

Yes back in the late 60s to early 70s seed was
cleaned on the farm. When you started what did
        you do!
We bought from star city Tisdale area then UGG
        in bags. Then treated. Etc!

They're pushing it through now because all winter farmers have been distracted by the railway problems, basis price, elevator space, and new crop prices. Who has time to get ready for planting and deal with Bill C-18 and UPVO. Most farmers don't.

              This government is selling farmers
              interests down the road.

Its becoming obvious they are out of
              touch with reality.

They have a few suporters that will be
out of farming in the next few years but
for new entrants they have gave away
              their future.

all they have done for us
                i have seen a 50 bushel westar
canola crop 20 30- years ago.
if what they are selling , were true
we should be averaging 50 every year.
maybe some of you are ,
                i sure as hell ain't .
                depending on moisture 28-45

How can they police this act? Do you think
RCMP are going to be inspecting every field and
bin? What happened to right of ownership? What
                  leadership!

They will police it by only allowing say 5 varietites of wheat, a
certified seed tag and if you don't have it,they will not accept delivery
of the proceeds of 25 dollar a bushel seed.

I know my seed growing neighbor is salivating.

And that guy and TOM4CWB are the so called farmers the government guys like RITZ are listening to.

Sad, its so obvious that the freedom fighter TOM is ensuring his own interests are taken care of.

Maybe that was his end game, to get farmers to pay for seed every year.

Under the diguise of rid us of the CWB he was quietly planting his own ideas in the minds of simple folk like RITZ and others.

we are definitely the fools here.

the seed giants don't need to make land payments, fuel .fert.machinery.or work.

once they own your seed rights
                        just sit back and collect

Oh so true.....but thats where the average age of current farmers becomes an assset for most of us. Most have a 25 year plan when they reach 60....and it doesn't involve buying certified seed for 10,000 acres.

The governments truly have failed us . On the other hand it is pretty obvious who the winners are.

As Tom might/used to say, and thankfully now doesn't "Lord help farmers"

all this debate on here is kinda useless

it will be a done deal.

if there are 500 farmers on here
that think debate, come to some conclusions

the vast majority will not even think about it.

most will only wake up when it hits their
                            pocket book. too late

we get the government we deserve
we get the transportation system we deserve.

you can work as hard as you want.

and the folks that make the rules can take whatever they want.

Your RM council might very well be on record as calling for a ban on Hungarian partrige, parairie chicken and white tail deer hunting due to the danger of extinction of those species and the concurrent daage to the ecosystem.

But not a peep about about UPOV91 and a looming crisis on several obvious agricultural fronts surrounding grain; beekeeping and maybe even livestock (sick and dying piggies for instance).

Maybe we are meant to suffer through every potential manmade catastophe.
