Since you seem to be in the know of all things government, here is a question.
Why does the government make a public order in council and fail to follow up with public reports?
That should have been implemented at the time the open market happened?

Bucket, if you say Larry knows more than every member and advisor the WG have access too. We'll have to agree to disagree.
If you say his pinky knows more than me about transport you would be closer. Although I'm just a guy on the internet.
If I were to ask any farmer how to run a rail road it would be Con Johnsonn of Bracken. Former WG director and past chair of the busiest short line in Canada

Being a wheat grower member doesn't have to be on the resume to qualify every time, does it?

The STB in the states isn't ****ing around. Why do you guys think that fertilizer shortage disappeared. The STB ordered the railways to move fertilizer.

If it's anything like the Estey/Kroeger debacle no farmer or Larry Weber types in their right mind would want to be involved.
So, why the need to have farmers involved? The railways and grain cos should have commercial arrangements. Let them go at it. Sure, producer cars are an issue, but the right to them is protected in the Canada Grain Act. If farmers are involved, the usual suspects will line up, some on the left, some on the right. Might as well put cats on one team and dogs on the other.

Larry would be good, absolutely indeed the list is short, Conrad would be good too.
The candidates need to fully appreciate the impact upon the sector on producers and industry, and the full range of public and private policy that implicate the industry and the farmers, also familiar with the parameters of the CTA, understand the implications of service on trade and indeed are entrepreneurs who believe in the future of ag. and growth and understand the investment required to maintain and grow production and industry and have a good sense of vision and logic and efficiency. The two that come to my mind not listed here are:
Heidi Dutton
Lara Dutton
Yes they are my daughters but indeed they have this range, of fortitude and hands on knowledge, with a voice and the strength of mind and knowledge to look to present solutions for future capability.
I wonder is the timeline too long?

However I believe action is what is needed not another study. We need more capacity and better DATA and forecasting. WE need it yesterday.

It should only take about three weeks to study a 100 year old railway system that hasn't changed much.
1. A brief history on how the railways were built and disposed of in Canada.
2. A quick review of the customers it serves
3. The traffic that has been pushed onto trucks and its impact on the taxpayer in the form of a highway system and fuel comparison with respect to the environment.
4. A look at current maximum traffic that can be handled by the railways in their antiquated sytem.
5. A look ahead to what the system needs to be to get all the volumes moved by rail again. Essentially move the RRs into the 21 and 22nd centuries as this is something that needs to built for generations to come.
6. Canada is growing and there is no reason that we can't have a rail system equivalent to europe.
