With the Wildrose Party holding an edge on the Progressive Conservatives, the first poll conducted during the Alberta election shows the Alberta NDP is also gaining some ground to force an intense three-way race in the province.
Mainstreet Technologies released a poll of 3,270 Albertans on Thursday that shows the Wildrose Party leading with 24% support and the PCs dropping slightly to 21%. Mainstreet says the NDP have extended a lead in Edmonton to 40% and have jumped to 20% support province-wide with some growth in Calgary.
“The first few days of this campaign are showing signs of a tremendously competitive race. Wildrose is holding steady but the sudden surge of new support for the NDP in both Edmonton and across Alberta is the real story," said Mainstreet President Quito Maggi.
The Alberta Liberals have 9% support followed by the Alberta Party with 2%. Maggi said the survey data shows some “real bad news" for the PCs as their numbers slip among voters certain or likely to vote, trailing the Wildrose Party 33%-27% with the NDP not far back at 25% among decided certain and likely voters.
