There s more to your story than you tell us. Because if you lost crop like you say you did no way you re in good shape unless heavy outside income or something else going on.
I m not 6000 acres and no new machinery. We actually have had several years of loss.

No off farm income here. No inheritted fortune. No cosigning to start, free labor, etc.

Just living cheap, using 30 000 dollar combine, 20 000 dollar seeder. Don't have a skdoo or a quad. No auger mover, no gps. You learn to live with what you have and be content. Never bought land for more than 550 an acre. P
Never paid more than 35 rent.

I am by no means in very great shape, I thought I have made that clear. I just simply try to roll with the punches. Live within my means. Diversify into what works. Trying new crops, new ventures, selling lamb direct. Spraying fungi, not when my neighbors do, but WHEN IT IS NEEDED!

Of anyone on here, I honestly think I could be helped the most with some form of bailout. But I do not believe in them. I will make my own way, thank you very much. I think everyone should make their own way.

No there s more to it. With today's cost and I don't want to sound disrespectful. But either a guy lives in the bush living off the land or there s more to it.
How much does your utilities cost alone.

But since you don't believe in subsidy you send all your crop insurance payments back and I ll take you seriously. Speaking if which if you have that good coverage you sometimes talk about what years did you loose crop. The two just don't jive. I highly doubt lamb is gonna pay many jugs if spray or canola seed unless you have thousands of them.

Well, I do kind of live in the bush, and in the 1950's too. We have hens running around, raise almost all our own food, sell eggs etc. My wife simply will not buy a single thing unless it is on sale. We do repairs, home renos, everything on our own. I can not remember the last time I had services rendered on our farm, because we do it all. If we haven't done it, we learn how. And we are growing into the lamb business. At 300 bucks a lamb, there is good money there. That would be like getting 2100 for a fall calf. Then take into account ewes almost always twin.

Regarding crop insurance coverage: I had some excellent years when others were dried out, so my yields built well, and my experience discount maxed out. And in the worst of the wet years, when you can not seed, your yield is not zero, so I avoided a big crash on my yields.

I am not sure if you want my income tax from the last few years?? lol

We skrimp, we are frugal, we are cheap. Necessity made us that way... I dunno what you don't get. Most can not live these days on the dollar number we live on in a year. It is a matter of choice, and necessity.

I get my land custom sprayed, I forgot that part. That is the one thing I do get done professionally. So gps on the herb.

My sprayer guy has asked me in consecutive years what I am running for gps, because I seed that straight. No joke. And with 35 feet of drill, it is pretty easy to stay straight. I will get gps... When I can afford it.
