Ok no one wants to ask the question so Here it is! Economic loss from the heavy rain!

Rain does make grain if its normal year and those who got hit and continue to get hit will see that Rain makes mud and crops a Dud!
We lived through this shit for so many years now that I cant even remember the dry years. Oh wait I can we made out like bandits. Good crops good quality and easy to farm. I hit a rut yesterday spraying that cost me 700 just because the boom went up and down and took out a cylinder or two from the bounce. Just one of the hazards of excess rain mud and shit in general.
But the big cost is Economic impact from flat flooded fields that are already saturated with water. These areas will turn yellow in a few days then brown and finally black and dead even if they are headed. Brown patches of canola that looks filled etc. Lentils don't like wet feet and disease will take hold.
Big question will some of these insurance Companies be able to handle the fall out. Yes they insure for such shit but what will premiums be in future years. What cost $100,000 will it be $200,000.00 next year. Sask crop will have you harvest then quality issues will be adjusted. Yes its early but if you have 160 acre quarter and 60 acres is gone you harvest 100 at 50 that's 5000. That's 31.25 crop if your coverage is 36 that's 4.75 x 11 or 52.00 a acre minus your premium you get maybe 40.
    Yea its a money maker.
Rain in excess is a killer that takes takes and takes some more.
Drew's forecast is this shit right into harvest. Just cant wait.
I know how lentils will come out of this. Plus peas will get root rot if it continues and then fall over even if they are standing. Mud earth tag at harvest. Durum goes down disease has a breeding ground. Canola if stem damaged has a access point for disease.
But one storm doesn't kill a crop its the future rains that if they follow the same path that will eventually trim the crop and make grades sick.

well were already f$&ked here , most crops have 4-8 ft of water on them , town flooded last night and many roads , hiways ,culverts , etc are gone . still raining . this crop is 50 % gone at least . those miserable bloodsucking leaches are gonna have to feed elsewhere . 9 " in a week . crops were hurting for water 2-3weeks ago . and the miserable son of a bitch let us get every bit of fungicide on first . what a f$&king country . wonder how long before market realizes this is pretty widespread ?? guess they will ride the bumper train as long as possible

      Media perspective...

Strong winds and heavy rain are creating issues for some farmers across Saskatchewan this week.

Sherri Roberts, regional crop specialist in Weyburn, says the moisture is wide ranging around the grainbelt, from small amounts to over 130 millimeters at Estevan.

She expects limited damage to crops in low lying areas from heavy rain.

Roberts says the moisture does add to crop diseases and is causing some major delays in haying operations.

But she adds many fields are in excellent condition.

Wow , who paid her off ??
Yes Some areas are excellent, but big areas of the province are damaged beyond repair . No fungicide will help what will show up in 10 days in many areas. JMO
Many areas that were extremely dry in June will now just produce an average crop .
Late sclerotina infection will hammer some canola yields by up to 20% , again JMO .
A lot of time till harvest

It will cost me my grain farming side, no question. I will be forced to move on. My crop is screwed. But I was already making the shift. I will just have to make it faster. My wife even lost a bunch of chickens to drowning yesterday. Some of her valuable breeding flock, which sucks. Worse, is that my son, who is trying to raise meat birds, has taken it seriously, and working hard at it, lost a bunch of birds. Ahh farming!

My main hope is that you out there who always talk about how good rain is, and how we in the wet zone are all full of it, got your fair bloody share. I want badly to share the experience, and hope you got a good amount of rain. And then if you so desire, maybe you will be blessed for 12 years straight. Enjoy!

What a crock. What a joke.

The good news, is I don't even give a rip anymore, I really don't. I just don't care.

The economic loss from hard hit areas will blow through 1 bill , hail season just 1/2 way .
Potential was there in many areas yes , 4 days ago , things changed big time as of today

I wounder if the experts commenting on this huge crop have factored in $.06 / lb feed lentils ? Or feed wheat at sub $4 ?

It's the grade factor that companies will have a hay day with. Out come the tweezers shit oh wait I think I found some come here guys look at the damage its a feed we have a special 3.00 a bushel but we can take all you grew oh and we will deduct your Chem and fungicide bill from your check here is final outcome 52.95 hope you enjoy your case of beer! Wait we made a mistake you actually owe us money! So sad mr farmer now get out of my office I have more of you guys to deal with. Why you farmers just can't learn how to grow a crop the right way. We have advisors that charge just a little to show you how it's done!
                Next!

I have not come across any rainfall maps which accurately show amounts from
                    the last few days.
Huge variability with this storm. Getting a handle on damage is going to take
                    a lot of work.
Here's one for July 11 what it's worth

According to the map, our rm got 10 to 15 mm. Reality is over 75.

Mushrooms are popping up in the yard...I can only imagine what is happening in the canola fields and the spores from other pathogens. Good luck everyone.

No guarantees implied or expressed in farming.
