No, the economy was in the tank before the NDP took over but keep on spreading that lie if it makes you feel better.

I will start by saying I never agreed with privatizing power generation in Alberta. This was a bit self serving due to the fact I was raising pigs at the time and wasn't anxious to see my power bill go up. I also felt Alberta wasn't a big enough market to create enough competition. Having said that when these corporations signed the power purchase agreements one part of the contract stated that if future governments bring in new legislation that make them unprofitable or more unprofitable they can walk away. The new carbon pricing system brought in by the NDP is doing just that. Even though I sometimes find Mayor Nenshi to have a different outlook than myself, this time he is quite correct and has a much more realistic grasp of the situation than the governing NDP. They have suddenly realized they have screwed up and are grandstanding and trying to look like they are sticking up for the taxpayer. Whether they stick the companies or themselves with the bill for their mistake in the end the taxpayer will pay the bill. Grassfarmer your inability to see this in unfortunate.

One other thing, I see a large American enviromental group has come out against energy east. All the carbon tax talk and implementation across Canada hasn't helped to give social licence for pipelines. It will only increase our cost of living, reduce employment, and slow down economic growth. Carbon taxes are just another cash grab. Have a good day:-)

Here you go grassy, another account of why the Alberta NDP is incapable of "good governance" - they won't or can't read!

And as a result, for the people of Alberta, ignorance isn't bliss...

http://www.metronews.ca/news/calgary/2016/07/26/alberta-ndp-admits-not-aware-of-enron-clause-carbon-tax.html

"Good governance" - lol - like the inmates running the asylum.

BTW, I wonder how Nenshi feels about one of his brothers decapitating the French priest today...

ABs govt needed a good barn cleaning. But weve just filled the barn with a group that has at least as much manure albeit a different odor.

These so called "news" sites at the top of this thread are clearly laughable. Oh my the squeals if anyone posts from the likes of rebel media. Why do socialists have such thin skins??

Moving on, I know a lot of small employers that have wound down or moved provinces. Not all just because of the price of crude. (Read business/govt environment). The only difference between now and 81 is the interest rates and more diversified economy.
Make no mistake, the ndp is not helping. The Alberta advantage is now clearly for those residents who contribute the least to the gdp.
Heard a rumor that there is closed door talk of funnelling carbon tax $$ to a hyphenated Canadian group to buy yet more land or something.
Some posters here have the luxury of skipping town when convenient, or living elsewhere anyway.Others the largesse of ignorance.
The group that will pay for this particular rampage is shrinking daily.
We are now the smuggest bunch of frozen 'idiots'.

It's just money guys.....at least that what Notley and the destructive NDP say.

Phasing out dirty coal to replace it with unicorns, solar, wind and buying from other provinces will cost every taxpayer thousands more for decades.
This little $2 billion expense/penalty is only $1000 per taxpayer and besides the NDP and St. Suzuki say it's okay. 😂

The excuse the NDP is using is incompetence and ignorance. It has been proven that Notley did know the rules and used her political ideology/agenda to close coal plants and throw taxpayers under the bus.

Let's hope Alberta learns their lesson regarding electing this 4 year NDP dumpster fire.

The rope appears to be snug around the taxpayers' neck now, thanks to the NDP's "good governance", LOL! A "government" suing itself to cover the impact of its own abject stupidity (guess who really pays) - good governance!

"In a statement Wednesday, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce said the lawsuit “sets a devastating precedent that will erode public trust in our regulatory agencies, call into question contracts that have been promulgated under existing regulations, and discourage inward investment to our province.”

“The Government’s incendiary portrayal of business as motivated only by the pursuit of profit at the expense of public welfare, at a time when business is struggling – and still contributing substantially to our collective prosperity – is as insensitive as it is insulting,” the chamber’s director for policy, Justin Smith, said in the statement.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi called the suit “outrageous.”" (Cattaneo,FP)

We here in Ontario would not have guessed that the corruption of this brainless Liberal gov't could get worse but it does. And it appears so in Alberta as well with the ndp following the Redford crap pile. And you guys out there likely haven't even seen the worst of your mess.

The Stalinists are moving in - "good governance".

Last one out need not shut off the lights - it will already be dark.
