If i didnt know any better, & relied on your SK govt AG employees assessment of the crop, id say saskatchewan is going to havs a real bin buster this year. I hear the excessive rains only caused minor damage, and that the high spots will more than make up for the low spots in the fields.

By the way, how many "provincial ag specialists" are employed by the sk government? And i thought mb had too many employees.

Conventional Crops around here look very good. Organic crops with the weeds now visible are like Christmas morning you never really know what you're going to get until you open the field.
The media rhetoric has to be the most frustrating thing a farmer can listen to. Genuine weather disasters and the talking heads are guessing how close to a record the yeilds will be.
I drove from Prince Albert to Estevan via hwy 33 the crops "looked" good. Returned via hwy 39 to Weyburn. That area looked pretty rough. Large areas of Dirty, flooded, rotting pulses. One field I just could not figure out if it was grass or canola or what! I now understand the rotting pea/lentil mess being described. Not cool at all.

Read an interesting article this morning that basically said ontil we reach a level of ZERO C02 emissions the earths temperature will not stabilize and will keep rising. This raises so many questions, first and foremost don't humans exhale C02 when we breath? Same article suggested a price of 150-200 dollars a tonne on C02 would be required to actually make us change our ways and make it revenue neutral while you are at it with equivelant tax cuts or rebates direct to consumers.everything being proposed by today's governments are just tax grabs and political grandstanding. I am not for one minute saying I agree with the above carbon price, just trying to jolt all the wanna be tree huggers into reality. I am curious how I would farm with zero emissions though! All green plants use CO2 when growing, but release carbon when decaying.

It's interesting when you look at the research into increased C02 levels on plants - it's not just the "growing more of the same" dream you might imagine. For instance increased C02 will reduce plant uptake of moisture which I'm sure you'll all welcome - "This in turn can have consequences for the hydrological cycle of entire ecosystems, with soil moisture levels and runoff both increasing under elevated CO2"

Makes for an interesting read.

Isn't extended droughts a
Part of climate change mantra? If so then increased levels of co2 cause drought which and causes plants to use less water... I e become more efficient.


Sounds like a win win to me.


Greenhouses use co2 generators to stimulate plant growth and higher yields.


Higher levels of co2 also increases peotein content in cereals and sugar content in fruits.
