Locally , while sort of rain for most of the summer , we have had just enough the last few days to fill what's there.
Missed the heavy rains again last night , but that's a good thing now . Being dry may be a blessing now.
The wet areas south and west of here are now as bad as anywhere in Western Canada. Water all over and crops are rotting in fields in some areas.
The "pockets" of dryish crop run mostly north of HWY 16. Some areas were very dry and disease is limited in those pockets. But lentils and canola in wetter areas are now showing showing white mould and sclerotina.
Yeilds on ave here will be well ... Average and quality for the most part will be decent unless we get early frost or the heavy rains move north .
Most canola out of danger now from sclero if not infected already.
There will be some very big canola yields in small areas that caught some mid June and mid July rains . It will be possible to see over 60, but a few will not make 25. Most will be average tho.
      Lentils still a crap shoot
Peas yields will be generally good , quality yet to be determined but very low disease this year and 90% peas are sprayed or about to be and standing very well, again a few fields will yield very high , some will be poor, most above ave.
Very little cereal disease anywhere locally , not sure about south of river. Yields will be decent but wheat midge will be present in later seeded wheat.
Barley yields will be ok but will be stained and some will be chitted.
No real bug issues as of yet , but have heard of berthas 30 miles or so east of here with spraying going on .
Yields In general , 30% above average , 50% average and 20 % below in this area with quality yet to be determined. It will vary greatly I think

Worst drought on record here, record high temps about every other day. Anybody that planted corn late is cutting it with discbines to salvage feed, lots of dead or dying corn and beans, trees starting to die. Pasture done a month ago.

ENJOY your touch DRY furrow...might not last, Dalek, next year you could be flooded out!
Either creation is crap or random chaos evolution sure took a sick turn.

            Retirement, will be fantastic!

I know fj, I did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday .
Shit can, does and will change - it is what it is today - next week might be a 180.
Actually already has , we went 28 days without more than a 1/10 , now every 12 hrs we get more than that . But still lucky to miss the down pours . For now

Well. Tonight I walked through my canola on my home quarter for the first time this year. Finally got up the nerve. It is one of my better fields.

All I can say is I sure got killed with my timing this year. Tiny plants do not take wet well. My estimate is that 40% of it is nothing, no plants, nothing. 40% is unbelievably poor, as in yield estimate in those areas would be 5 to 8. The best area I found, probably accounts for the other 20% of the land. It may push 15 or 20. It is the poorest crop I have ever grown. My overall yield estimate is hard to gauge, but my guess is less than 10. All based on timing, soil texture, pre-existing water table, landscape, etc.

Good news is, I knew it was pathetic, I never had delusions ever that it would be a good crop, except that emergence was excellent. So at least I am not like others on here who have seen a good or great crop wash away. I knew it all along.

A question I have, is do I even swath it, or do I straight cut it under these conditions? There will be a lot of screwing around with the swather empty, where as with the combine, at least you can buzz an area with plants, and then move to the next area. I realize shelling will happen, but I am far and well under crop insurance yield, with their 11 plus dollar price, so does it even matter?

What a dumb way to try and make a living.

Straight cut, you wont even be able to see the pissy little swath by sounds of things. Also crop insurance won't pay 4 extra pass anyways.
