Working late always causes me late starts.

I laugh now at the great headlights on combines ....I rarely use them.

I hate starting a field at night....you just don't know where a washout appeared since your last pass.

Nice light rain this morning..if we would have needed it?
Quit at 12:30..13.5 hrs.on the combine was enough for the wife .even though she wanted to keep going . safety becomes a major factor.only 108 of canola to.

All wheat done yesterday , moved to canola again last night. Last 30% to go. Got all wheat dry the past few days. The weather ahead looks good for canola - a lot cooler.
The last wheat still a #1 14-15 pro.
The worst wheat was our first seeded taken off 2 weeks ago , should get a 2 tho
Regardless not much money in wheat.
AC Brandon was better than the Carberry by 5 bus and held a #1 . Slightly better pro.

We never go as late as some, but we have young families to go home to and hopefully wake up with
But we don't farm a ton of acres either

It is normal to do 30% of harvest under lights or in this area we would never get done. Noon starts are the NORM with usually 90% humidity! No washouts here either, too flat.

I see the last crop update out of Alberta - Sept 13th showed only 20% harvested as opposed to 5 year average of 37.7%.
Everything has been at a standstill in my neighbourhood in MB after 1.25 inches through the night on Thursday. We are in heaven stockpiling precious moisture for next year but I guess it's not suiting others so well.

I'd guess that I've done as much combining in the dark as in the daylight. But it is usually October. Don't have the luxury of deciding when to quit, the window is too short. We quit when it's too tough, or broken beyond repair. I tell the hired help to just go home when they need to, because if they wait for me, they might not get home at all. When canola gets dry, I go around the clock until I can't for whatever reason.

I agree AF, everyone goes home when they feel they need to..go anytime that you feel is right. No hard feelings at all if someone is pooped out. I always say it's a marathon not a sprint. Better rested and safe than overtired and getting hurt.

I myself have been cursed and blessed with being able to get by on a few hours of sleep. I love going late on nights when the equipment is running smooth, my phone is not buzzing and it's just me and the Harvest moon watching over.
