Canola was developed here and this area will soon be a canola free zone. Disappointing yields and high production costs are pushing canola out. Soybeans will take over in Manitoba next year. Soybeans are out-yielding canola and are less costly to produce.

Canola acres will get slammed next year in s. Mb. Bean yields unbelievable this year, and $1.50 per bu premium over crapola. Glad i will no longer contribute check off funds to support the useless canola council. Sorry canola, but you have out priced yourself out of this market.

Canola pays the bills around here. We had our second best crop ever this year.
This was in spite of some disease pressure. Probably should have sprayed but didn't. Ya it's expensive to grow but it usually delivers.
Soybeans are borderline in this area. (Saskatoon area). I have a neighbour with what looks like, to me, a good soybean crop. But most of the people who were experimenting have quit.

I think lots of farms in the rrv are already 1/3-1/2 beans. Outside of the rrv beans will explode next year, lots of farms in non traditional soy areas will be 15-25% SOYS.
pea experiment was a flop for lots of farms. soy yields are as high as canola on some farms.
Beans are $2/bu higher than canola and cheaper to grow......
Canola seed prices are going higher, new fancy treatments that were supposed to be better aren't so now there are new ones again but they are a buck a lb more baldur stefansson is rolling over.
Soy is the best thing to happen to mb farms since the early days of canola.
Lots of competition in the soy seed business = lots of excellent genetics and new early ones yield good too.
Even have the legal off patent rr1 for guys who want to march to that beat of that drum.

Greed will teach the canola seed companies a lesson in areas where soybeans are a viable option. Other areas will have to endure the abuse.....

MBgrower, the Canola Council is industry, bbeing companies, crushers, etc. Your checkoffs go to the Canola Growers, which is producer funded and producer driven.

Maybe all farmers should protest these high canola seed prices by all standing up and seeding bin run seed for a year. Our canola seed bill last year was $240,000.00 for 3000 acres of seed. What happened to get this out of control? Maybe we should Learn something from all the other protests going on. Farmers in western Canada would be heard if we stood together. Social media would be a great way to spread the word. These compaines are Screwing Us Bigtime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They dont own the Canola Seed....We do....its ours..... they just figured out a way to steal it from us......i think we could take it back.......

I've seen neighbours try beans and haven't tried them again. 20 bu/ac doesn't cut it. I agree canola inputs are out of control, but I think I can make more growing canola. Seed costs are getting way out of line, but we all need some oilseed in a rotation.
