You know what'll happen if a carbon tax is railroaded in. Besides everything we buy going up because everything is shipped in by way of diesel, such industries as ag may be exempted and may get a rebate but imagine the extra layer of beaurocracy to administer the rebates and tax. You know full well no one is going to pull their air drill with a wind powered tractor, and heating our houses in the dead of winter will ultimately cost us. Let's face it we live in cold sparsely populated wasteland and the environmental crackheads don't give two shits about that and would love to see us freeze to death. I have come to the conclusion that environmental protection is good and we should keep our planet clean and healthy but the whole climate change and carbon tax hegemony is fear politics used by governments to gain support of Eco types, and create a boogeyman. Much like the nazis blamed Jews, the red scare of the Cold War, or the threat of Islamic terrorism there needs to be a boogeyman to fear so governments and religion can offer a solution and perceived safety if the sheeple follow them. Whether carbon is going to kill us all in the end I don't know I'm not debating that. I just see through this facade as a control tactic.
