Balcarres Land and Auction

I was looking through Ritchie Bros up coming auctions and seen The Redland auction.
Just wondering if they were able to find a tenant for the next three years? Did it all go to the same operator or did it get pieced out? How much did they have to pay? Just curious.

Sounds like it is rented to a new guy.

This new guy is a little seed grower who wants to be big.

Time will tell they are still in negotiations.

No locals decided to take it all on.

Its all or nothing rental with Ontario Teachers Pension Fund.

Now the Equipment of the Red Army is real nice. Every thing form drills to quads to combines to swathers cleaners dryers fuel tanks etc.

If something like that came up in this area their would be locals in a dog fight to the death to get there hands on that much land all at once, I would certainly be up for the challenge.

There is a lot of land for sale in that area and it never seems to sell that quick. Why is that? Opportunities to buy land here are rare and unless its a private deal its a bidding war to bitter end.

Im just saying since its all or nothing that has taken every single guy in area is out of the equation. Even the Big dogs are not jumping. Also mud is interesting to farm in and if the weather hasn't changed for 15 years I guess we have to adapt and learn to farm different. Plus the shit show in West Sask this fall harvest is normal for this area rain storms build because of the lakes and hit, getting more than 5 to 7 good harvest days in a row is a dream. You need lots of equipment and lots of men to farm here.

Plus if rent is close to $100 why would any normal thinking person want to farm it we are in a down turn.

Let the pension fund fall on their face.

Kind of like the Large farm that just sold up by Tisdale. I have a friend that farms near there and they tried to buy some, they would have paid more for the quarters they wanted than what they sold for but it was all or nothing. The locals would have absorbed that land no problem for likely more than what it eventually went for.

I agree if it would of sold quarter by quarter he would of got more than the package the Pension fund paid.

But when its rented and all or nothing guys are not looking.

We would of taken 13 no problem. I use to farm 4 so know the land when i was starting out.

In the case of the Tisdale farm once the Hutts have it, its gone forever.

Why is the farm selling off? Downsizing or getting out before things get worse? Good luck for a 'small guy' trying to take on this much at once, especially in that mud bowl region.

saw a bunch of blue tractors harrowing and protilling on the Redhead land near the Balcarres grid so I stopped and talked to the new neighbours.. big farmer from Indian Head took 2300 acres and supposedly the rest is split between a farm from Weyburn and one from south east of Yorkton..

Redland got out at the peak three years ago and rented it back. Teachers pension wouldn't budge on rent so let it go.

Yes, Landlords are getting a little to greedy and I truly believe there is an awakening coming for them, many. I have made generous offers to buy every quarter I rent with no luck. I believe in the not so distance future the farm landlords of Saskatchewan will be begging for that same offer. It will happen, the cycle will come around. I had one of my landlords tell me a couple years ago that he thinks I am making to much money and he wants more so a new agreement need to be made as I was handing him his $120/acre 25% share Red Lentil cheque.
