SF3, looking at your fields I would say there is hope. We need sun and wind to melt this snow and firm the fields. We would be a week or more away from trying to get in the fields. Since Oct 3rd, 4 inches of rain plus 4 inches of wet snow twice. I think we are hooped, but I could be wrong.

Lite snow on swaths like S/F is one thing , but swaths in the heavy snow area around here like Ado showed plugged solid from heavy snow and 3 days of wind that drove the snow into the swaths.
Some standing canola was combined yesterday in this area with very little snow.
Ado's area through westernvickie I think were one of the hardest hit last week .

Snow. Freezing rain advisory for overnight.
So if the Arctic Oscillation and the Jet stream changes?
Looks like November our last chance. Either freak warm spell to take tuff. Or dry cold spell after snow gone (IF), and take frozen.
Or swath ahead of the blizzard and leave for the mice.
Question. Better to swath for winter or say screw it and disc in spring? Thinking the former for a few reasons.
Thankfully only wheat left out for me. Neighbor got caught in spring rain, big seeding delay. His canola all in swath yet. Gonna help him all I can.
Getting hammered on Mbly price. Found a bin I can empty. Thinking lock all bin doors for a while.
Others have it worse. Humbly suggest a lesson for some of the younger set. Meeting with bank Monday myself.
Be kind to yourself. Teach your kids.

What more can be said??? We've been talking about this forever. We are all loosing $$$$ with every rain/snow storm. I have some hope to finish, but she's fading fast. Maybe it's time to exit this beyond stressful game. Everyday it's a fight with someone. Get out before all the machinery dealers, chem companies, etc take everything we've all worked so hard for. Mark my words it will happen. We we are peasants to the world, our job is to feed the world for nothing, and we are doing a good job doing it.

Stressed to the max. Only about 30% of the crop left out, but it's the high value stuff.

bills to pay... and crop in the field. On top of that, probably our best crop ever out here.

Took off a truck load of straight cut canola in the snow yesterday out of desperation... it worked not ad. canola testing 114... but today it's fog and hoar frost so won't be getting at anymore before the "wet snow" tonight and "rain" tomorrow.

I wonder why the hell we do this somedays. Have so much less stress with a regular day job...

In this area (Humboldt to Colonsay) there's wheat, canola, peas, fababeans, lentils, and oats and flax out still. depending on locale anywhere from 15% to 50% of the crop left.

Seen a load of canola that was combined yesterday. From somewhere NE of Calgary I believe. 11.3 mst. They're going as fast as they can before it's supposed to rain again tomorrow.

Meanwhile at home, still some snow on the swaths.

Just did a test on some canola swaths 18.6 moisture! Itch to roll is gone. This sucker is gonna need some sunshine heat wind perhaps propane and definetely some aeration.

I think you should be getting some of that yet SF3. I never sprayed this last field of canola and the stems where grass green yet gumming up the inside of the combine making mess and bridging over the chopper. Figured a frost might help, I guess that was a bit of f'n mistake. The canola is shorter then the stubble from what I had cut previously. This was taken this morning.

And that's exactly why I'm nervous about growing straight cut.

I hate to warm up the combine, transport, and then be forced to puke 10 bushels or so out onto the ground just for 250grams. I slid a 4x4 piece of cardboard under the swath, roughed up the swath a bit, little wind to blow the shells away bing sample.
