Learning and hard work mean nothing unless applied toward something people will pay for. There are a lot of hard-working English lit Ph.Ds out there slinging coffee.

Since we no longer have a market based economy, hard work is no longer the means to get ahead. Need to instruct kids in the ways of crony capitalism and cultivating favors, greasing palms, right party memberships, etc as the way forward. We have a central bank that daily robs savers to subsidize debtors. Working and saving towards a goal is for losers. Imagine if suddenly the money presses were off and market rates of interest prevailed. Suddenly all the speculation stops and hard work becomes relevant again. The B of C even anounced today that they want to cut rates even further because more stimulus is needed which totally undermines hard work and productive activity.

So why do our governments insist on more immigrants, other than the obvious requirement for more housing, subdevelopments, roads, waterlines, sewage and drainage which creates wealth for those companies, paid for by taxes.
The controlling class in this country are no different than the U S, just more skilled at it.
And of course saving doesn't pay, service industry doesn't actually earn money, only primary production and manufactured goods. Deficits and inflation create a bubble, but maybe it will just grow and not pop.

The trucking industry is a joke, but creates a lot of jobs. It just shows that efficiency is passe.

Smart economists,lol.What about the credit supper cycle we have been in and is falling apart,zero rates for this long,how many cars and houses where built because?how much over capacity now?those bastards blew a huge bubble,import as much labour as they have,what did that do?

And the government should pay interest on bonds,tax payers dollars,instead of issuing currency itself,and 609% of all the current government debt is an interest cost payment-i can't believe how insane everything is

The issue of left behind workers, is not going away, and is only going to get worse, especially with increasing government and regulations. Obviously a politician promising to bring blue collar jobs back is futile. But I ask anyone out there, what is the solution? Realistically, we could meet our standard of living with 50% or more unemployment with current technology ( a number I pulled out of a hat, but is likely low, by the time you remove all of the parasites and bureaucrats) . So what are all of these other left behind people supposed to do? If they all go on permanent welfare, does that destroy the motivation for the rest? On an individual basis education will help, No amount of education will increase the number of jobs significantly. Make work projects are just a drain on the productive sectors of society, as is welfare. If we were all educated to what the world needs now, could we all just work part time, or very short careers, I don't see that working as the knowledge one builds up over a career would be lost or discontinuous. A solution in the past has been war, but even that doesn't require many uneducated people anymore. The next technological revolution, possibly in energy or healthcare will require lots of labour for a while to implement, but the likely outcome of that labour will be eliminating jobs in the long term.

What I struggle with is the fact that we almost face no physical limits to economic growth right now. We have excess energy, food, housing, manufacturing capacity, virtually all raw materials, labour, education capacity, but are held back by the fact that we think we need 100% employment to succeed(not to mention debt, and government intervention). I think that mindset has to change, but I have no idea how.
