Dakota Weather Consultants Weather Blog for Oct 26, 2016

    Good Morning,

Well the pesky front should start pushing clear of the Plains through the day, behind the front high pressure will settle in for the next few days, this will allow the Plains of the US and Canada to dry out so that harvesting can continue where it may still be needed, along with this dry weather will come the cooler temps, right now next storm system looks to push into the Plains around Halloween.

The Praries is a vast expanse. Environment Canada has forecast showers for Thursday night and 60% chance of showers Friday. (Regina area)

I was out mowing yesterday and came across a 75 foot kochia swath....soaked wet. I don't think anything in a swath is being picked up around here. Tuesday around supper time we had nearly a tenth again. You can't string together enough drying days to get out and harvest. Some soybean crop is being tackled. I can't imagine flax is do-able...that crap wraps too easy.

    Brutal!

About two tenths last evening, couldn't get going yesterday as the air was too damp, no sun, nice wind , but blowing in humidity instead of drying. Heavy fog this morning,,,,,I think this area is DONE !
At least for flax, and anything still in swaths.

Satellite shows those same systems building in Washington/Idaho. They cruise in here every day. There's a lot of crop out and patience is wearing thin. We all hoped to get done early this year but September 15 is long-gone.

Honestly...... I've lost all hope of much of anything coming off anymore this fall!!!

And most here know my harvest status but I hate to see others not getting done.

Eventually the weather has to change. If it will be a long enough stretch for everyone to finish is another question. Drying bins of some type are a necessity in a year like this. Ah farming, the continuous learning curve.

We learned a few lessons this year:

                1. Have 2 or 3 or 4 good combines and a dryer bin and a mechanic sleeping right next to you. A dryer bin can be used to go a few days sooner and later in the day as a few days here and there can make a lot of difference - saving grade one consideration.
                2. Cut Canola green when temps are hot and wind is blowing
                3. Didn't seed flax, but if we think about it next year... think again.
                4. Switch from lentils to chick peas or soybeans. Red lentils-forget them. Other types have better markets.
                5. Make sure the combines are cleaned and parked for the year before Green Holidays.

Note to Self - take weather predictions from the oldest guys we know - not government weather predictions. Those predicted long sunny weeks never materialized.

At Farm Shows, the dryer booth attendants were lonely. Think they are lonely today?

Still have 900 acres of canola in swath. Lots of soybeans and canola still out there in my ( mb parkland area). Haven't turned a wheel in September and got another 18 mm last night. 9 inches of rain here in the past 5 weeks. Truly amazing how wet it is for this time of year. Have accepted that it's not got getting done this year and good chance the fields will be lit with a match in the spring. It's gonna be interesting to see how the market reacts to all that canola left out overwinter on the prairies

Get up in a plane the boys and girls at Sask Ag and food are full of shit the province only has 20% out. Alberta is similar and Manitoba just stopped reporting! Sing similar song sheet!

The satellite shows a heck of a system over top of us right now. Good grief!

Depends on thread. Nothing stopping cutting and pasting old threads to a new heading at top of list again. Couldn't control that.
