Sounds dumb but thats my opinion he sort of went in to stir up the establishment and succeeded and found himself to be a accidental presidential candidate.

Some say if he was a little more cautious and didnt shoot from the hip he may have actually got in, but if he did that he would have lost his appeal.

We have 4 trump types in aussie politics not quite as brash but they really do shape policy sometime for better sometimes for worse.

One of the great things about the US is that there is no party discipline. Parties are loose affiliations there so you can have a Democratic president and a Republican house or senate or any combination. Everyone gets a voice down there which does lead to lots of noise. Up here in Canuckistan the government can enact their agenda largely unopposed even when they win with only 40% support or less.

on the news here friday night cotton or somebody will set me straight but the guys in oregon who had civil case about reserve land and bundys involved all got aquitted didnt know the ins and outs but according to the "left leaning" report suggested it was a shcok decision but went to another channel later and they suggested it was common sense.

Pretty confident the 10 million men won't descend on Washington after Trump gets beaten. Most of them don't like city crowds and are happier skulking around in the backwoods of rural America. They are no army, rather a gather up of religious wingnuts, white supremacists and wannabe cowboys. It is a very dangerous time in US history with Trump riling up this sector of the population. That court verdict in Oregon just fuels the fire. It shows that domestic terrorism is a very real threat - and it's not the muslims or the Mexicans that are the threat but these lunatics. Thank goodness they are a small minority of the population.

To answer one of mallee's questions in his opening post - no if Clinton gets in that doesn't mean the democrats automatically have the lower house (House of Representatives). Depending on the outcome it's possible and has happened before that the president is from one party and both the House and the Senate have the majority of their members from the other party. The mid-term elections can often create this situation if the political winds change. As well, there is no party discipline or "whips" that force people from the majority party to vote with their party. Local considerations can lead to the divergence in voting. The trade-off is fixed terms so just because the majority party may lose a critical vote a a general election isn't automatically the result, and may be partly the reason they only have two parties instead of three or more like in our parliamentary systems.

A trump type person would never get elected in canada and australia weve had a few similar types almost get in, but australia has a preferencial voting system which means party with most votes nearly always doesnt get in. 2nd even third preference votes count importantly. Plus we have compulsary voting which history has shown favours left leaning socialist parties.

Green parties here in australia have fallen out of favour all of a sudden we realize our renewable energy is ultra expensive, our water is most expensive in the world and price of alot of basic staples has increasedat a alarming rate. Farmers with dams on there farms which catch excess rain run off are actually taxed on it due to fact it has run into creeks etc and out to the ocean. All green policys from way back.
