I ran a pull type for at least a decade and it laid the nicest swath ever. Eventually I bought a self propelled honestly with the mindset that I was going organic and I was going to have to swath everything because of all the weeds and/or double swath such poor crops. It's funny how people (me) think.
My good friends went so far as to suggest I buy a baler! I was pretty scared about transition. Thankfully I did attend conferences and other organic farmers were willing to give advice. Most active organic farmers are relatively successful but they don't get to brazen about it because nobody wants to hear it.
