O'leary always mentions on BNN that for a $ of tax paid the first 30 cents will be wasted automatically in extra staff/perks or incompetence.
With the 70 cents remaining a lot of salaries, travel, accommodations, conferences will need to be paid.......the climate minister and 100 people don't fly to Morocco for a "climate conference/holiday" for free. (The Rebel.media is covering this trip to see what our tax dollars are getting us)

A carbon tax is a total waste that will not show a net benefit with GHG, temperatures or anything.
The only thing it will accomplish is hurt the Western Canadian economy and help ensure the voting power remains in the east......which is excactly what Trudeau wants. The west was getting too strong and a lot of politicians in the east couldn't stand the west being the engine of the Canadian economy.

More proof we need a carbon tax....had Hydro here installing new power to a yard site this morning. A lift truck and a truck to place the poles which they were using. Two big new F350s they weren't using sat running for 2 hours because they are too lazy to switch them off. That's the culture of fossil fuel waste that has to be tackled in North America.

If the USA and Russia and China and Australia and South America and France all don't have a Carbon Tax and Canada does it will kill our economy literally drive a nail into it.

I ask grass what does that mean I am a bad polluter as I have had to dry about 30% of our grain this fall in November as October wasn't a great month to harvest. So I should of used wind and Air to dry it. Oh we didn't see the sun for some 21 days and no wind.

They are all signatories of the Paris Agreement SF3, they all recognize there is a problem and are looking for ways to solve it. If Trump decides to walk away from that agreement he won't have it all his own way. The Europeans are already talking that under such a scenario they would just slap an import tax on any American imports to reflect the value of a carbon tax they should have implemented.

You still don't see the connection do you SF3? Flooded fields, droughts, harvesting wet crops in November = likely results of climate change - yet you want to increase the incidence of these things? You talk about family but what kind of favour does that do your kids or grandkids?

Grassfarmer you and I both raise beef cattle. The one difference between you and me is I realize the same groups pushing for carbon taxes, no more pipelines, green energy are the same people pushing for an end to the production of red meat for human consumption. I get the impression you believe because you focus on a grass based production system you are immuned. Due to the higher amount of water it takes to produce a pound of beef plus the methane emissions emitted from digestion cattle will soon be a target. A good example is Canada goose winter coats. Many protests going on because the fur on the hood is coyote. Our turn is coming!

Hamloc, I'm not against a certain "type of people" because something they do doesn't tally with my beliefs. I like to judge each issue on its merit. You say people will come after us because cows take a higher amount of water to produce a pound of beef - higher than what? Cattle don't "use" water they only cycle it the same as humans - none of us are removing it from the water cycle unlike the oilfield injecting it into zones from where it will never return. As for methane that discussion is happening now and i'm involved in it. Putting forward the case that the benefits of our type of system outweigh the negatives which I truly believe they do. Doesn't make sense to shut out anything a certain sector of society says because you disagree with their beliefs on one topic. Doesn't make sense to bury your head in the sand and deny climate change either. The discussion is happening now and if you want input you'd better be at the table.

Folks, its going to be revenue neutral. Money doesn't leave the province, doesn't leave the country so it doesn't hinder our competitiveness against other countries.

But it leaves my pockets. It costs more to produce the same thing so in order to stay in business, i need to sell it for more competing against those who don't have to pay for it.

Obviously math isn't your strength. End of the day, same carbon produced, just poorer, and some government department spends it on who knows what.....

It's a useless tax and like one guy said your grass fed beef will be these simpletons next target.

How about trying to produce the same thing a different way (cheaper - less fossil fuel) or produce a different product altogether?
Perhaps business acumen isn't your strength? Have you never had to make changes in your management or your operation before to cope with changing circumstances? I know I have, many times in matters of greater magnitude than this. Change doesn't scare me - I thrive on it. We are only limited by our imagination and human ingenuity.

Grass recommends everybody change their ways or change what they grow.........even though there will NOT be a decrease in GHG emissions.

So in other words throw away your $ because you don't need it.......employ a carbon taxing bureaucracy instead. 😂

No, we're turning 3% or 4% OM to 6% or 7% OM - no one is doing that with conventional (crop) farming.
You can't buy OM at the input dealers, only things that further deplete it. Watched a video tonight of a guy in Georgia that turned 0.5% OM to 5% in 15 years. That's the future and it's addressing climate change in the process.
You are not going to beat mother nature so the sooner to try working with her instead the easier everything becomes.
