I read some of Grassfarmers links that will open.
Most cite pollution so bad it is killing people that have to breath that terrible air.
You rarely can see the sky in Beijing.
They HAD to do something about that!
We looked after smog in the 70's.
Made a lot of blunders with the first attempts.
You can fly out of LA today and barely see a haze in the bowl its situated in.
I think most believers think we can take care or climate change with results like we saw with smog.
All we had to do was make a few technical modification,tweak up the old designs and life just got better.

greybeard , exactly. getting rid of smog had some hurdles , but it got done.
and we are still here.

i am sure there were lots of letters to the editor in the 70s about how pollution controls
would bankrupt the economy, company s would go out of business , from the cost of cleaning up their emissions. maybe the odd company could not manage it . but as a whole , they made it.

you may be too young to remember the streets in saskatoon or edmonton.
where city buses and gravel trucks , screamed and spewed black crap into the air all day.

the only circumstance that would make sense not to try is if you think
something else is going to get us first.

and it is possible

a virus, or a nuclear winter from any number of causes , ( an asteroid strike ,
nuclear war, volcanic eruption,) or artificial intelligence gets carried away and wipes us out.

or for some religions , assured that the end time is coming soon , i can see why it would not matter to them, everything but them will burn up anyway. (so why bother cutting emissions)

Saw fly what Im trying to say is that if you are a country that has over a 100 years of Coal left and third largest holder of Oil and gas in the world plus nuclear why in the world would you want to kill those industries before all the bugs are out of the new Green movement creations.

Do like the chinese when they see a product that works take pictures steal plans higher workers etc and build the thing cheaper.

Plus why in the world would Canada who produces piss all for Carbon and has more land that no one lives on as a huge sink thats trees and lakes etc want to be the first boy scouts to drop oil when the rest of the world s big players are saying that this is bullshit and lets move one till its perfected.

This carbon tax scheme will make the poor really poor. and the middle class move down to poor.

Its a tax and a job killer. If the USA isn't going that way it is simply idiotic for little canada to even contemplate a Carbon tax.
