Wiseguy your analysis is simplistic. What about potash, uranium, forestry, tourism, manufacturing, health care, education, utilities, communication, tech? All sectors contribute to the economy. Oil and ag are important in some provinces but are a relatively small part in the whole country.

Oh come on now, the Saudi's are such good stewards of the land they shouldn't be paying carbon taxes.
Even though they fund terrorist groups, throw people off rooftops, stone women, don't let women drive or vote, they seem to be favoured by eastern Canada vs the evil provinces of Saskatchewan or Alberta.

According to Trudeau its more environmentally to have oil sent to eastern Canada by tanker from the Middle East than sent from a pipeline in Western Canada.

The only positive is that the Saudis won't have as much say anymore since the Clinton Foundation can't be used to buy off the president now.

The only reason Energy East was proposed was they didn't get Keystone XL and all the other pipeline proposals looked difficult to achieve as well.

How many pipelines do we need now considering production is not expanding as fast as planned.

Why not just put a ban on Saudi imports? Harper could have easily done that if human rights are the core issue. There are lots of other suppliers.

I think cost and quality has been driving Saudi imports. Without a pipeline it was cheaper to import oil into the east coast refineries.

What size are the refineries in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes? How much do they need?

They continually slam dirty oil from Alberta - have taken huge transfer payments from the west while helping sponsor a known terrorist state. Now in a panic to close dirty coal as well , all the while saying it's ok and economical to import blood oil from Saudi .... follow the money

should have been east west pipelines a long time ago. Why not cut the imports and use that as a bullshit
number to reduce carbon in the fuel it takes to bring that oil across the ocean.

We should be using domestic oil 100% whether its higher or lower price just so we aren t subject to anything they want to impose on us.

Stonepicker the price of oil went down because of oversupply and lower demand. Not because of the NDP in Alberta or Trudeau in Ottawa.

There should be a tariff on Saudi oil equivalent to the transportation cost in a pipeline. That would increase the price easterners pay for that oil and equalize our loss in not being able to access a market in our own country. Fair is fair! We don't let milk, eggs and poultry into this country because we want to protect domestic production, what about oil? Just think how much eastern debt could be serviced with the duty.
