We will argue forever over uncertainty.

I wish that the all or none principle would apply, declare war on carbon, and issue the ration books, or just forget it, as it will never work out the way we think it will work out given the element of time.

Good post again Perfecho, we've missed your common sense around here. SF3 by his comments in reply to you highlight the problem. The attitude of entitlement, to be bigger, greedier, more wasteful of resources show no regard for the future of the planet or future generations living on it. It's all about ME.
Forget the carbon tax, that attitude to resource use is not sustainable, we simply can't go on like that.

Blackpowder, I for one don't expect the carbon tax to improve the economy, create more jobs or make us wealthier. It's a pill that has to be swallowed to prevent a potentially fatal illness for the human race.

It snowed in the Sahara desert. First time in 37 years of global warming.

Common thread is "run for your lives".

Stonepicker hadn't heard of the perforated tin before. Interesting idea though, unfortunately my tin arrived yesterday. Thanks for the suggestion.

Grassfarmer I don't think my building of a shop is out of greed or entitlement. With the cost of mechanical work at dealerships at about 125 dollars an hour I consider the shop a necessity. As I stated I would like to be able to do maintenance on a combine as an example in the winter. Also I believe it would be much easier on my daily use chore tractor which sits in an uninsulated tarp shelter and even though the block heater is on a timer the transmission is very stiff at -30. I should have bit the bullet and put synthetic transmission fluid in it, haven't done so yet.

If you really think the present Canadian carbon tax will help future generations I again use Ontario as an example. The stated Alberta NDP governments goals are as far as I can see no different than Dalton McGuinty's were about a decade ago for Ontario. Look how that went. I would agree with you it is a pill but I would say it is a suppository applied with no lube lol! Anyway always enjoy the debate Grassfarmer.

Well at least we agree on a few things grassfarmer. Now if only the politicians would say it the way you did.

So all these guys that slapped a fuel surcharge on 5years ago that is still there this year with lower fuel prices now can add a carbon tax surcharge too. Makes perfect sense to me. It gets harder to hire stuff out all the time.

Hamloc you misunderstood what I said. I'm not begrudging you moving from no heated shop to having one. It was the impression SF3s comment's gave that he is going to double his already large shop just because he can and other people have to make the power source cheap enough so that he doesn't have to cut back on his lavish lifestyle.

We can all use more heated shop space during cold snaps but businesses don't build facilities to accommodate unusual surges in demand, as there is a law of diminishing returns. Heated shop space is worth a fortune to build and operate now.

During the blizzard the week of Dec 5-9 we ran 1 tractor on an auger, 1 - 30 hp auger, 1 - 35 hp conveyor and a skid steer. The only thing that needed shop time was an old van that needed a hose replaced. Everything else had a heater on it or was plugged in. Fortunately nothing quit when needed.

We have a small shop but enough space for front wheel assist and a skid steer. Plus some work space.

" It's a pill we have to swallow " That's exactly what the gov. is trying to do, is convince the people that we NEED this tax to save the environment or i should say, from global warming, and people will gladly pay another tax. How much is notley spending on advertising to convince alta that they need a carbon tax? Is it 8 million or more? How much is trudeau spending?

Oh come now. The gun registry only cost 2M and was self funded.
