Well today begins a new chapter in our lives. My wife retired in July and we are heading south for the first time buy our selves, to check out Florida. Were doing a road trip south and have countless places to see and explore for retirement years in the state of Florida. I had relatives who lived down their so since 1966 I have traveled to most of the areas.

Our family have been to Florida many times but this is a fact finding mission. Check out every thing from Homes to Condos to Double wides to Park models, and even Renting. Hawaii will still be like a second home we will still go there for a few week trips, but if you need to get back to Canada its a two day adventure. Florida get on a plane and home by 10 at night or midnight at the worst case.

Now more and more I'm thinking renting, as even a full home in Florida for Jan, Feb, March, in the long run is still cheaper than purchasing unless the value of the property will go up. Then you have to pay real-estate fees purchase and sale. Plus i still think he will add a tax on sales for non residents. Now we missed the bust of 2008 and so not much more up side actually some down if things go sour in USA. Our time shares we purchased for .10cents on the dollar have been a good investment to get to condos all over the place. The home in Phoenix would still be just a home in phoenix. But yes it would be worth over 300000 today. But after the repairs needed and the changes to heat pool and do back yards and redo interior and paint cupboards etc probably not much gain. You never know but Home prices in Canada and Farm Values in Canada are out of line thats where the deals will be when the shit hits the fan. USA Farm values are dropping for third strait year homes are just back to below 2008 values. Canada yea a basic home in regina is really worth 475,000.00 ha ha.

So the travel tip of the day today is Road trip.

    Interstate or State roads.

Both have a place but on this trip its 28 min faster taking the interstate south than interstate and state roads combined. Freeways are nice but some major cities if you hit at wrong time or accident etc you can have delays that last hours. Some state roads are actually nicer than the interstate. So a combination of both is probably the best. Atlanta is a avoid city as its freeways are wow. Side road through Montgomery and then back on might add some time on google maps but actually be faster.

Hey you see more on side trips.

Found this the Supposed Hotel California on the Baha a few years back. If you can take the costal highway all way to Oregon once. Its a beautiful trip. But the next take the freeway as one day we drove all day and could of went what we drove on the freeway a hour.

Todays cocktail isn't a cocktail but its easy to have a cool one in the hotel room or even at a truck stop or in the passenger seat on road trip if your not driving.

But the question is who likes a Beer in Aluminium Bottle vs Aluminum can vs Glass bottle, draft in Cold glass. Whats every ones preference. Ok even a Warm as piss beer some might like.

For me its just a simple Draft beer in a cold as ice glass on a hot day, Just like A&W Root beer.

Cheers and on to a new chapter in our lives. PreRetirement. One word of wisdom is it came way faster than I thought life is short and years go by real fast, Your not bullet proof in your teens and early 20s as all the stupid things you did back then come back to bite you in the ass in later years. 50 might be the new 60 but shit changes in the 50s.

Oh on marketing who else is totally getting sick of the Malt Barley Bull shit in Canada.

Its accepted then they keep taking samples, oh its not now up to spec and you have to dump as feed. Or you win the lotto and actually get malt maybe not on all the bins but one of the three big buggers makes it. So you grow again because you feel like it was worth it.

Malt is a game a big game.

On the JT file Wow can this punk get any worse.

I have no problem with bringing in refugees from Syria or where ever if they are legitimate refugees. No one should be killed like the Jews in Germany it was wrong. USA stood back and did nothing at the beginning.

But like the Calgary major wants to open the flood gates, really WTF is going on.

Plus when my family immigrated to Canada a long time ago it was the English and French that ran Canada. The Germans and Ukrainians were not given the best land were usually sent to the bush to make a life but most ADAPTED and became actually stronger and smarter at farming than the English and french and actually purchased most of the early properties. You spoke German at home or what ever your language was and learnt the new ways. Kept the old traditions like Perogies etc and maybe the other holidays but you became part of Canada. You made Canada great, You didn't get elected and try to change Canada to be like the country you left.

That is the part JT and the boys don't get.

This is Canada we all adapt.

    Have a great day.

To each their own I guess.
I think if you like a change of scenery, exploring and discovering then renting is better.
Save the favorite destination for older years when it's just a matter of sitting around somewhere warm. That's if you aren't doctoring all the time by then

The Dr thing is huge. How many people know of some one who was going to do all kinds of shit when they retired to either Die in the first year or get sick and have to live here.

Travel when your young is also great advise because as you get older the clock ticks very fast.

My thinking is Hawaii after harvest till Christmas using time share and then off south till April first in what ever we decide works.

I have been told dying with property in the states can make your estate quite messy. But I'm sure you have already been warned about this.

How lucky you are SF3!! I'm going south today also, round trip of 14 miles to pick up my mail.
Won't have to worry about cars and traffic, population of my little town is 22. Only cocktail I will be having is coffee, sitting around listening to all the BS I've missed in the passed two days.

Dealing with u.s. property in an estate is no big deal as far as I know anyway.

I don't particularly care for canned beer I like beer in a glass bottle. I haven't seen the aluminium bottles around here. They are really popular in the states though.

We brought a vehicle back from Louisianna about 7 years ago and enjoyed the New Orleans area. We go South a few times a year, but don't enjoy the Phoenix area as much as playing the comps in Las Vegas with a rented car. We have seen pretty well every long-running show and even saw Rich Little at 78 and Continental Cup a few weeks ago. We limit ourselves to a buffet a day and a few tall ones. but always Friday Crab Buffet. We made two trips to the wineries and Palm Dessert/Temecula and enjoyed a golf game and sight seeing at Palm Springs. We have tried the Mc-Allen Texas area. Let us Lots of Canadians there are parked along the Rio Grande. I like that area a lot.

We have been to France and Monaco and we were treated to First Class flight home. No - not by the cops!

Our bucket list still has on it, a Mississippi cruise from Minneapolis to the Gulf - soon. Have a great trip SF3 - bet you are going to see if the crops are seeded in Oklahoma, maybe you can write the trip off. LOL Oh yeh- price out the chemicals too because Trump is gonna make JT open the doors. 👍 Make lots of CO2 to replace what you are sequestering this year beacuse I really like breathing nad eating.

SF3 it was suggested that U.S.A. property might be better off put into your CORP.. I haven't followed through on checking that out.. But it came from a Florida real estate salesman who had sold to many Canadians. I know every state has different laws when it comes to property.. always checkout the county and state laws before signing on the bottom line

Did you know that the Missouri River used to flow north from Montana and barges used to carry goods to Edmonton? The information placard posted on the highway told of the great Missouri delivering supplies north until the army corp blew it up and diverted the river toward Helena. I should have paid more attention because it stuck in my mind as the face of Alberta was eternally altered. I wonder if people in Alberta know anything about this snippit of history. I know, it sounds like false news but I don't think it is.

Yes and one thing is for sure. I think I can count on it SF3 will be reporting like the trooper he is. Go SF3. A Pineapple Mai Tai awaits.
