    Seed treatments

Hi everyone, been lurking for a few months (good fun and some helpful comments) so its time to join in.

Anyways, are there times when some of you use a wheat/durum seed treatment and times when you don't. My experience of using them off and on is I don't see any difference at the end of the year.

When we are forced to seed deeper seems like the only time we're thinking it makes sense and going into water logged fields isn't a problem here most of the time.

Also thinking of getting our own on farm treater.

If it's hot and dry it doesn't matter. I've used the expensive stuff and the cheaper stuff it doesn't seem to matter. This year I think it would be a good idea to treat for sure.

Was at Crop Connect and a interesting comment at one of the presentations. You will not see a 10-12% difference visually, and that is true in replicated plots as well.

Seed Treatment most years is insurance, but probably more plants and more vigour.

50 bushel wheat, 10% yield loss not seen is 45 bu/ acre. Most would not notice a difference, or attribute it to a management factor.

Studies have shown many seed treatments actually lower yield when used on clean seed and we'll managed land.

University studies here in sask and mb/ab.

Use seed treatment when the soil is wet or cold, if the seed lot is high in fuz, or of the land it's going on has had a fuz/wire worm problem in the past.

Other than that you're wasting money and needlessly screwing around imho
