Watch Trudeau give cash instead of actually addressing the real issue.

Peas lentils chickpeas wheat sits on the prairies....

Trudeau should buy the grain, get it moving and give it to the countries...better for Canadian farmers to have the money rather than the dictators or others that can't solve the problem.

20 million pounds of grain per day is 10000 tonnes. A unit train per day is required to help these countries with a food shortage.

Can't and won't be done.....they will talk about it until the 20 million die....

bucket, i have travelled Africa extensively and one thing I learned was; Africa will never change.

Tribal control means the goods for the people are often intercepted for profit and corruption.

The African continent is far bigger than North America and they could feed the world themselves, but that won't and will never happen.

Then shoot the ****ing tribes in control....

you are kidding right? .....that nothing will change.....there is technology to pinpoint and destroy the problem .....but can't be solved.

Why the **** have we spent time and effort in the middle east ****ing around over oil that we don't have a shortage of?

The Irvings might need middle east oil ....no one else does.

Iv been to the worst places in Africa a couple of times. I Seen first hand the government corruption and the suffering that these dictators have caused.

Corruption is absolutely rampant at every level of government and over time iv realized that the only way out of the mess in places like this is widespread civil unrest. Even with a total breakdown of control in these places you have the chinese so vested in the resources that they have established a large military presence. The bloodshed from a coup would be unimaginable.

I honestly beleive in giving to the suffering, but i fume with frustration thinking that it would only help support the horrible structure that in place. True Capitalist system could make some of these place flourish beyond our wildest imaginations. A good socialist system would be required prior to this, educate the hell out of the people and then bring in some good solid capital investment from outside. I think over the next 20 0r 30 years we'll see the people of cuba living a lot better lives. The medical advancements happening in cuba are incredible and will help lift this highly educated country up out of poverty.

That place might still be a free brothel for expats if Castro didn't take over. A little history lesson for some of you.

                  Any of you have daughters?

Iv also worked with farmers in Africa. They are using some incredible gardening techniques to help sustain themselves in remote areas that have NOTHING else.

We are so bloody fortunate, you cant even comprehend the circumstances that some "Farmers" live in.

Birth Control is what they want and need (maybe added to cans of water or canned lentils) and of course, no more warring. But what hope is there? Sure we feel sorry for those poor people, no doubt about that. JT giving bundles of cash so the government can buy more guns, think that will help? Guess I don't have the answer either, just glad I was born in the deep freeze. 😬

The problems over will not stop until the fighting stops. That could be a long time.

Workboots thanks for the well written post, no easy solution to fix a huge problem. I think if getting grain to them can't be as easy as some think, as it would have been done decades ago! I'm so fortunate to live in Canada

Sumdum, bringing down the birth rate would certainly help, education is a start?

Here's how the previous government handle it, the Liberal have reversed it:

The Conservative government has offered an explanation for why it will exclude contraception from its initiative to improve the health of mothers in poor countries: Birth control doesn't fit with saving lives.

Sending grain and foodstuffs seems so logical compared to cash which ends up in the war lords bank account was my thought also until an old neighbor of mine who flew out of Moose Jaw for years took a couple trips flying a C130 into Africa to drop off food aid. He said that after he landed he kept the engines running at 75% while they unloaded. Warring gangs lined the runway and all they did was split up the goods among them selves.
After 2 trips he told his CO that he wouldn't do any more as it was useless. CO not happy and told him to keep his mouth shut because that is what the gov't wanted done any how. Optics!

There's where they made the mistake....they should have shot the gangs along the runway on the way out ....and every time they could .....until it was peaceful again.

Didn't Harper send body bags instead of real aid to northern communities during epidemic.
