Retaliatory trade action from Mexico is or should be a concern to US producers of corn.
May be an opportunity for Canadian feed grain growers.
Wonder what US reaction, if any, there would be to our feed wheat being railed to Mexico.
What a mess with voter support for protectionist policy from both ends of political spectrum in US.

Canada declared yesterday that they would not negotiate NAFTA without Mexico at the table.

I guess that is awkwardly worded. it should say Canada will only negotiate with Trump with Mexico at the table. In other words, "we can't exclude Mexico at our meetings boys!"

I've been to the WTO as an NGO and I can tell you firsthand from watching negotiations that Canadian officials are no pushovers at trade negotiations.

Be that as it may. It appears trade negotiations moving toward individual deals? No more multi-country.

There could be benefit in bi liateral trade. There might be less to give up to gain market access.

Actually, I remember when it came in, as I was quite excited that customs and duties between countries were to disappear completely in ten years. Doesn't seem to have happened.

That would likely be the best thing for this country. Bring it back to reality. No more sunshine, rainbows and refugees when all the auto companies shut their doors the next day because of no NAFTA. But Canadians have vast expertise in the being-a-***** department, so I expect Freeland to burst into tears, and Doughhead to kiss Trump's feet and beg him to play nice. I would be very scared if I had any investments in lumber products or dairy - the wolves are at the door and the Canuck guarding it is a Pomeranian.

CBC says Mexico views deportation as hostile action.
Most seem to see it as unthinkable that entire immigrant labor force would be deported from US.
Would seem to be in Canada interest to play peacekeeper role.

USA seems to prefer the bilateral trade agreements now.

I don't understand why if we had a great agreement with USA and a separate agreement with Mexico how that would be any worse than now?

Mexicans might be eager to do a bilateral with us when they are bickering with USA.
