The past ten years have been unusually wet in our area compared with long term record going back one hundred and fifty years.
When first settlers arrived in eighteen eighties, sloughs showed evidence of having been full following wet years of seventies.
Nineties were dry and most sloughs dried up.
Grandfather said 1912 was a wet year and sloughs overflowed.
Following that was a forty year period when larger sloughs did not fill up and overflow which they did in nineteen fifties.
Another forty year period when sloughs did not fill and overflow but for past ten or fifteen years they have been doing so every other year or so.
Not caused by but in addition to any drainage that has gone on.
