We pulled the crankcase vent out of the filter and plugged the hole in the plate. A world of difference.
Our Kohler acted same way, cranked but no fuel. Just as saskshafe said, removed vent tube from engine, starts every time even -25C. I won't go out if colder.
Another question are all your Kohlers, 999 CC, having terrible governor responses? This one dies when any load is applied, unless full throttle.

no this one doesn't do that was loading peas this morning right full at an idle , worked good . we had trouble the first year , changed plugs , seemed to help . one plug wire seemed to be faulty as well . I think the shitty wire was the real problem. I also installed an electric fuel pump that first year . those mechanical ones seem to give trouble. this one is a 36 hp , not sure of the cc? all in all have had a lot of trouble with this kohler , though

Try putting an inline 12 volt fuel pump on it. It made a big difference on mine.

On my kohler I leave the air breather just loose enough so I can turn it to put my hand over the intake to really choke it. Very huge difference in starting.

Garry at G & R, Tisdale thinks it is the governor adjustment. I tried but no diff. Can't be plugs or gas because starts fine, 5w30 oil, reg gas, no heaters. Pulls 10x41 full of grain no problem. All 35-40 hp are 999 CC to get under the 1000 CC emissions BS.

Running a 27HP EFI Subaru on an 8" auger. Thought the Electronic Fuel Injection was going to solve the whole cold weather starting problem... Its absolutely impossible to start once its below -25C without throwing heat at it. If it doesnt catch on the first attempt it floods its sorry ass, and with an electric lift pump constantly priming itself, and injectors pouring the fuel into it with no ability to adjust the fuel flow or the choke level its hopeless. Only upside is i've NEVER had to throw alcohol into the gas tank.

Only thing I've found that works as a preventative measure is a 100W trouble light sitting up against the block and an old canvas tarp to horde it in. If its REALLY cold, and it floods itself, the only way to get er going is to push a kerosene heater up the ass end and let it buck till everything is about the same temperature as it would be in July.

Anyone ever stumbled across heater elements that go into the un-used oil drain plug? I've seen them advertised as "cold weather kits" online for some gas generators, but have never seen them on shelves anywhere.

I have stuck those rubber heat pads on the 36 and the 38 hp ones , from canadian tire , they are working good . also throw a couple old coats over them . this morning it was -25 , aimed heat gun at block and it was 40 degrees F. . they are $125 and 250 watt . stick on good

This all fake news fake stories because it’s global warming means never gets that cold any more. Lol

Koehlers real pain in the ass to start past minus 25.

                          Feel sorry for you guys..
We use electric motors on our augers...never a cold start issue.
