Everyone seems to be concerned about "smoking " the stuff. That will be the least preferable way to get your thrill. Imagine going to Tims for a coffee and doughnut. That special row of doughnuts in the middle will be the ones you will want. Or try and keep your kids out of the "special" row of cookies at McDonald's. Stop at your local convienance store and getting a coke and a bag of "chips". The possibilities of exploiting legal pot will be absolutely endless. Smoking it will be the least of our worries

Far too many equate pot with alcohol - "it's no more of a social issue than alcohol - and alcohol is legal. why not legalize pot too?"

Socially, they are quite different. For the vast majority of us, alcohol is consumed later in the day - even after work (most of us). Hell, my experience is that people don't even have a drink at a business lunch anymore. (20 years ago, it would be odd NOT to have a couple at a business lunch. 40 years ago, you were expected to have at least three!)

But pot is different. Many "enthusiasts" start their day with one or two joints. So they are stoned when they get to work. And then some will have one or two during the day too.

Making it legal will make its current use patterns more socially acceptable. Read that as saying lower productivity. And already studies are showing that fatal accidents involving driving "drugged" are more common than those involving driving drunk.

Culturally, there is social pressure to put off any drinking until after hours. There is no such cultural equivalent with marijuana. Quite the opposite.

Not that making it legal will make things worse - those that want it can get it now. Just thinking that if we accept it as it is - and accept how its being used - then we're no further ahead socially.
