"To say the last week of Mar. could be crucial for wheat is to state the obvious," says Bryce Knorr on farmfutures.com. "Heavy rains over hard red winter wheat fields could come just as USDA releases its forecast for spring wheat seedings Mar. 31. Either could be too much or too little."
"Some dry fields on the southwest Plains picked up some moisture from the first system to move through the region last week. The next could bring more wide spread, and intense, storms, with potential for four inches or more in some areas. Barring flood damage, the rain could go a long ways towards making the crop.
"The precipitation outlook is drier on the northern Plains for the next month, after chances for rain next week. But the Minneapolis market mover should be Friday’s Prospective Plantings report. The average guess from the trade on acres is right in line with results of the Farm Futures survey, 11.3 million. But some believe farmers could shift 2 million acres more of that ground into soybeans, enough to keep the high protein end of the market very sensitive to growing season weather."
US winter wheat conditions continue to decline. State statisticians report the condition of the winter wheat crops in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas declined slightly last week. State reports note that some rain was seen in areas of the states, but they were not generous enough to stabilize crop conditions.
So we had major fires in some states that burnt the ground black. The first rain event late last week did piss all. One more on the way end of this week. Friday they tell how much will be planted. Will the farmers in USA say piss on wheat and go with Soy or Corn.
