Ag minister? From PEI? The entire province has less acres then 2 farmers I know in southern Alberta? Still can't figure out why he'll wasn't raised over that. How would people in Atlantic Canada feel if the ocean and fisheries minister was from Saskatchewan.

Good point vvalk...but that is part of the ag critics job to make sure we get heard...whether its the ndp or pc critic.


In the last week it's really wearing on me.

The facts point to the issue that farmers are getting ****ed big time...while everyone gears up to do it again....if last year's crop hasn't cleared out... what's the solution....buy more bins....while the railways operate at 60 percent....grain cos buy grain out til February of next year if they are kind enough to book you an appointment.


Not sure my kids deserve this punishment for 30 years....maybe let them become potheads....

Nothing to do with what party is in power but it does show the respect Trudeau had for agriculture when he appoints a guy from pei to head up ag. Needed to do him a favour and here you go. What I am saying is he can go to India but he doesn't know anything except what he is being told. Probably has never seen a pulse. Probably asked what is a pulse

There is also no import tax on lentils... though one may be coming. There currently is one on wheat of 10%.

Yes, it is.


First of all, it's spelled Toor. Second, that's a pigeon pea.


Dal are lentils, Masoor Dal is a red lentil.

No problem... The confusion comes from "Toor Dal" which is a split pigeon pea....


Having said all this, I could see an import duty on red lentils coming in... They have a big crop, and the government doesn't want to pay farm subsidies so artificially raising the price inside the country is a good way to do that...

Unfortunately, Canada has a bad habit of developing 1 market for each commodity, instead of developing a lot of markets and picking the highest priced one to supply... Probably easier said than done, granted, but We could be shipping lentils to Iran, Bangladesh, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia right now, instead of waiting for India to decide their ag policy.

What forces dictate where our product gets sold?

20 million starving in Africa and there is no market? Canada could have paid farmers here 120 million for grain and called it aid. .....instead of writing cheques to other nations farmers and dictators......


If the boats out west are not contracted...there is part of the solution...then shooting the controlling gangs in the helpless countries to get the food to where it belongs....oops the foil ripped....

If the government really wanted to make a difference to starving Africans, they could put criminals to work producing wheat and pulse food products and shipping them to villages instead if pouring millions into the war mongers' pockets.
