Things don't appear to be too rosy in Calgary now with unemployment hovering around 10%, their carbon tax, increased municipal rates, increased corporate tax rates, etc. There are already a lot of empty office buildings so this is likely a long shot but worth a try.

If we want to keep kids around after they are done college/university we will need more companies that pay big wages in the oil sector and other sectors........not everyone can work for the government like the socialists would prefer.

Essential energy services can't hire back former employees....they have moved on.

If you can't rely on royalty revenue good chance there isn't much but transient jobs in the industry either.....

Wall wants to tax consumption....and give the royalties away....

Imo it comes back to size of govt and the line between NDP and SP is getting pretty fuzzy.. talk conservative act socialist. Govt only consumes and creates nothing. It's wealth redistribution with either party. It gets redistributed back to the provincial coffers!

I applaud Wall's efforts here. You can't just say you're open for business, you have to be open for business. Whether his incentives will work or not, time will tell. But regardless, he is making an offer and recognizes the province needs to bring something to the table.

Can someone explain the difference in incentives ....

"""""offers to subsidize relocation costs, trim taxes and royalties and help find space in unused government buildings if the oil and gas firm moves to Saskatchewan.""""

Or a fuel tax exemption for farmers if you are talking about open for business or ensuring that the base industry can compete with others.

And if it is such a good idea....why wasn't he doing this before it was a crisis....he's being reactive not proactive.

As if that offer won't be shown to Alberta as a negotiating point....race to the bottom...and then wonder why Quebec gets equalization.

Without governments investing in infrastructure, education, research, healthcare, and providing laws that protect investment and property rights and the rule of law, how would any market system work? Without good governance all hell breaks loose.

If we could get a few to leave alberta and Nut Case i think the flood gates would open.

lets look at it. Some still think she wont win next election. If the two right don't get their shit together she will win again and then watch Calgary empty out.

We shipped kids and companies west it could cause lots to head back east to us.

Plus who is going to pay her future 70 billion debt.

Really think about that long and hard.

And where does the money come from to pay for all this chuck? Industry and private sector jobs.

And with poor governance a state becomes hell and devours its inhabitants.

Canada irritates the crap out of me somedays... No corporation wants to start anything, do anything or create any new projects without government aid.

Government is Daddy, and everybody else is its kids... and without handholding nothing gets done. Good grief.

If you have a good royalty, and tax structure companies will come. No need to offer them office space, or all this other crap which is really just poor optics on Brad's part.
