If you compare a 4 year term in government to a generation....I think it will take many generations before we see the level of support for the Cons in the east that we did when Harper was PM. Therefore we may be stuck with the status quo for a while...

According to the link provided...
Interesting to note in Calgary the NDP were a distant third behind the Liberals in both ridings with the Cons taking both.
One eastern riding had a fairly close race between Libs and Cons with the NDP distant third. Another eastern had the Liberals easily winning with the NDP with nearly twice the votes Cons had. The third eastern had the Liberals also easily winning but the Cons with over twice as much as the NDP.

Sk3, i wonder how many are doing 200k renovations on those 1.8 m condos, because the kitchen doesnt have marble, or the master bathroom is a little small. Just add it to the motgage, after all theyre adding equity to their "investment". No wonder turdeua is so popular in ont, they all think alike.

Analysis on the by election results from a commentator in Alberta.
"Some reminders for all of those who are going on about how yesterday's by-election results were some kind of message to the provincial NDP and federal Liberals.
Let's dispel this bit of political spin, shall we?
1. All five seats held. That means no change. The LPC held 3, the CPC held 2. "Status quo" isn't a message to anyone about anything.
2. The 2 CPC seats that held were conservative strongholds in CPC heartland. There are ridings in this province that would vote for a zucchini with a CPC sticker slapped on it - cases in point; Rob Anders and Kerry Diotte, neither of whom have any business being in elected office but thanks to the "CONSERVATIVE OR DIE" mindset that pervades too many areas in this province, held/hold a seat. The CPC hanging on to 2 seats in the heart of CPC land is nothing to brag about. Ever.
3. Voter turnout in the 2 Calgary ridings came in at 30 percent. That's disgusting. But Conservatives are historically over-represented in by-election results, so the drop in Liberal support (and it was a minor drop) is meaningless. The lack of NDP support given a) this was a byelection, b) these are conservative strongholds, and c) The NDP doesn't have a permanent leader as of this date isn't at all surprising, and has little to do with the provincial NDP. (PS: centrists and leftists, get your ass to the polls. Shame on you.)
4. Of the 3 LPC seats that were held, Markham-Thornhill is a new riding created in 2015, so we can't really look at the historical voting trends. That being said, the LPC candidate won in a landslide. Ottawa-Vanier is and always has been an LPC stronghold. The fact this seat held is no surprise whatsoever. Saint-Laurent is the longtime riding of Stephane Dion and the seat has been held by a Liberal EVERY election since the riding's creation in 1988. As for why these are LPC strongholds, see my above comments about conservative strongholds. Same applies here.
5. The only real stories in this byelection are that women were elected - yay! - and the turnout was absolute crap.
Now you can all go about your day a bit better informed.
You're welcome."
