Well it was a rough first day. Big screw up with seed peas along the main grid. Yea it never fails could be side road or back 40 no right by the grid. Frost boil got my drill and ripped the line for blockage monitor. So might have some stripes on 40 acres. I guess ill put up a sign its pea test plots. Second day rain but very little and then it was full bore. New drill is having some issues with GPS and auto shut off etc. Then a new DEF pump failed on Tractor. But i know some just hook on and go with no problems. Wink wink. Every farmer has first day seeding issues. Its just like the first flower of spring.
In our area most are just started but a few with land south of the valley are well on way to finishing before the big rain on Monday. They were at 75% the other night. Others south of town are doing very well as it is way dryer than north. Most north of town got going on Tuesday morning and it looks like its full Seeding ahead till the storm. Lots are harrowing in front of the drill to dry out the land. Works really good I did a half on Saturday and seeded it on Wed. Went end to end. North you see lots of Empty tractor road travel. ( Drill stuck so harrow guy has to unhook the tractor and drive and pull out the drill on other field and then back to harrowing).
We should be at 14% Done by tonight if every thing goes smoothly. Most north of town should be just starting and south will be higher and south of valley will be way higher.
New guys are on Redlands and its interesting to see. Not the same but split up with five different guys. Ah Ontario teachers pension fund at its finest.
This week rain events were minimum for our area. Most farmers are really excited that for once were actually missing every major rain system. Most are crossing their fingers eyes what ever that the pattern holds till June or mid June. This weekend rain system looks again to hit Alberta and west Sask. all way up then move toward Manitoba. Here is hoping as small low areas are drying up and water runs have almost stopped. Creeks have slowed down. But one inch rain and were back to mud zone. All eyes are on weather program each guy uses.
Is it just me or this low Canadian dollar really isn't helping any one. I know it should help exports and any product we need increase prices. Well parts are insane and so is most things we farmers need. Then add in the extra fuel costs, its looking like a lean year ahead. But a Dollar at 30 Cent difference will make new equipment not viable. Thanks JT your slogan should be Lets GO LOWER!
So again every one is hoping for no rain on weekend and into next week. Seeding is full bore. Parts are expensive. Seed treaters are the latest craze some companies want you to spend a fortune on machine and then they will give you back in discount on your product. Some Want you to Custom treat. Elevators are getting into the game. Yea free treating. Ah the chem comes at a discount to them. So charge normal cost for treatment and make on discount form company. Its a big discount. Found some cheap Generic Glyphos at $3.25. Hot off the press.
So have a great week hope all get the harvest of 16 finished and Plant 17 in the ground. Take care Hug your Mother Wife Partner or Spouse. Happy mothers day to all. Keep safe its just a crop and the ones at home are way more important than it.
