Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Well first full good week out of the gate with both rigs wasn't that bad. All the Peas, Barley are in and the wheat will finish tomorrow. Then on to Canola since its after the 16th of may. For us thats a frost timing thing and really nice yields happen if we seed around that time.

Last night you could see tractors seeding North East West and South of us, every one is going full guns. One note the guys who either lemkin, spiked or Kelly early then harrow have really nice seed beds to work with. Unfortunately were in direct seeded ground now and didn't get these fields worked. Slow going compared to other guys.

We should hit 47% done late tonight. A few are done south of town and South of the Valley but as you go north things change fast.

No big rain yet this spring but winds are unbelievable and the dress code is a Touque and gloves most mornings filling up. We need heat and heat soon. Not one day warm then temp drops back to like this morning really cold.

Spraying is tough to get done this year, one guy even was going in the mist the other day.



Well except for some very cool nights the first peas are coming up and barley will be out in a day or two. The weather looks good till Monday or Tuesday and eventually storms swing to our side of the province as the jet stream changes.

Had to park the drill yesterday as we can't keep up harrowing, cultivating the wet spots and spraying, everything is a day or two away from being fit, so close yet so far away. Getting stuck a couple times a day, but it doesn't sink deep, just powers out from the grease. Hopefully we can start pounding out the acres today.

Are guys getting good control with RU when they spray and are immediately in the field with the drill. One neighbour harrowed, sprayed and drilled in the same day. Are these guys wasting their money, will they still get good control. With it so cold are we getting much translocation to actually kill the weeds.

Parked the drill at the dealer for electrical gremlins....

If you calibrate and the ****ing thing does what it wants it's not much good....gets a new backbone.

Too cold and windy to spray so I welcomed myself as the new chairman of the ..DFA inc....club.

So, for the week, it started with our air cart being hit with lightning Sunday morning. It took 2 1/2 days to diagnose and fix a scrambled monitor (plus thousands of dollars). Then frost, albeit light, and we have a lot of canola up. Today was the highlight when the front wheel on our Kenworth tandem came off going down the highway with a load of wheat seed on. Needless to say it was an interesting ride. Thanks to Wakopa we got a truck to offload the seed to allow us to seed and a rescue crew to get the truck off the highway.

Oh well nowhere to go but up.

if you are trying to make me feel better about , things arounds here
it's working.
i expect that stuff everyday, but so far it has been good.
just small stuff ( feel for ya )
your making me feel better already. 1/3 done . just the calendar bugs me .
once the sprayer gets parked, things speed up. hopefully.
have great help . but if the they do not run a seeder or a sprayer

you have to have both running the same time.
that is my problem

Think .... go through all this , rain , mud drought , frost ..... then throw on $100/tn canon tax on fert just to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Thank God indeed SDG. A front wheel and with weight on. No time to mess pants. Just hang on and muscle truck steering as much to the shoulder as possible. (Seatbelt in that old girl is a lap belt). It was like a bucking bronc for a second.

Truly though, it was more dangerous unloading into another truck on the highway. Lots of flares and flashing lights don't slow people,down these days. They drive like nut jobs. Is there never enough time for people to get to the next destination anymore?
