    Glencore

I just heard on the radio that Glencore is making a bid for Bunge. I have liked dealing with Bunge and I liked dealing with viterra until Glencore bought them out. I don't think this will be a good deal for us.

Swp was broke and became viterra who was bought by Glencore was itself was on the ropes just a few months ago....and now is once again the big dog.....really fascinating these boom bust success stories....ever wonder where all the money actually came from in ag commodities?

Find it interesting how we were told that CWB was not supose to have any cash or value but now with 49.9% share in G3 we can expand like crazy. Think we were hoodwinked by Gov't.

Not much will change, might see some sell off of assets. Crush plants at both St Agathe and Altona are only 45 minutes apart likely sell one to another grainco.

Bunge is the big dog in south america. That'd be the focus.

First the guys who help grow the grain now the ones who buy the grain.

I like bunge too, most agressive bids. I guess more cheap elevators and crush plants for richardson to buy.

Glencore/Viterra in our local area have excellent delivery hours. The Grain Markering Reps work hard to bring grain up the driveway. They are easier grading in CWRS than some others in the area. Canola bids are competitive but they didn't get mine this time, the highest bids were for almost immediate delivery and I couldn't commit to their delivery needs/timing. ...so I moved on and got a better deal with much more flexible delivery terms.

The Bunge acquisition will give them a presence in the canola crush in Canada....does Viterra actually operate any Canadian canola crush plants now? In a way that may not be good for Producers, one less competitor in the market.

When same companies operate the crush and seed export market...is that really what we want?

Viterra operates a canola crusher in ste. Agathe mb, something like 1000 tonne per day capacity. Long sloooow line ups.

I thought I heard these are just talks, like an expression of interest. Would it be a Glencore acquisition or a Bunge acquisition or a merger? I thought Glencore was bleeding cash and not in a position to acquire anything.

Viterra near us at Boissevain sucks. Their crush plant at Ste. Agathe is weak although they merely acquired it (cold press, slow unload). Bunge crush at Altona is stellar. The philosophies couldn't be further apart.

Rumours like this are likely to become fact....once the snow ball starts rolling. ....much like the chemical mergers....

Funny how corporations are following the railway path to either a monopoly or less competitive business plan so they can ask what they want and get it .....while we as farmers continue to outbid each other.....and continue the race to the bottom.

With all the mergers and consolidation in the Ag Industry..... they got what it takes to take what you got!

These companies are really no different than we as farmers. We get bigger, buy out neighbours, etc. make sure when negotiating with companies for their services there are fewer customers and will be fewer still. Your business matters.
