I expect that the agriculture department's report next week will have a better handle on the more recent wet weather and its effect on seeding progress.
The Western Producer is well aware of the wet conditions. On our website we reported on the forecasts for heavy rain last week and will continue to do our own reporting on how the spring campaign is proceeding.Last edited by Guest; May 28, 2017, 14:34.

We finally got planting yesterday. Only a month late here. Sunk the challenger not too bad and the sprayer 3 times. Our winch truck sure comes in handy. Going to need some luck to meet the June 5 crop insurance deadline. Good luck to everyone still fighting. Kinda frustrating knowing the fall could be a mess planting wheat and canola now but the insurance coverage is pathetic for oats and barley so we'll gamble. Can't be any worse than the past two years.....right??

I give wpmarkets credit for explaining their situation. I m sure they don't have the resources to weekly drive through the countryside and count fields which wouldn't help you anyway as you drive down one road and lots seeded you drive down the next next to nothing seeded. Not sure why the ag department is so out of touch though. But regardless look at the calendar. Lots of acres have to go in yet.
Also lots of farms get lost in the only 10% or only 5% bad thing. Some farms haven't started yet and may not seed anything crop is still out for them. Yet if there is 5% left out it would seem not
So bad but for those farms it's a total disaster and they get forgotten about.
Also wp you may want to dig into what's happenning to some of those farms. Waiting for crop or crop insurance. They have no income from those acres yet their input lenders are putting the screws to them. Give Scotia, FCC etc a call and ask what they are doing for
These people. FCC says they have programs but how many smaller farmers fit those programs and what happens if you have 2 successive years as many have. Ask Scotia in their input side if these farmers have missed their last year deadline what happens to their input loans. According to the one farmer that I was supposed to rent he s now in default and 18% interest is being charged back to the original purchase time. Should this. E happenning in a situation your waiting for either your crop insurance or your grain which you can't get either because of flooding? It sure don't look right to me.
That's the kind of reporting that doesn't happen enough. We hear this program
And that program but most of them are flops and don't fit. Where is the emergency grow forward for flooding? No one is talking about it because it's a joke.
Glad I don't have much land in that situation.
