Government spending is a component of GDP making the stat meaningless. It is hard to place a value on government activity so most is included at cost. I doubt AB will hit 3% growth as all forecasters are expecting oil prices to rise but they have not done so yet. I doubt we will see $100 oil again until after 2020.

agree ajl . . . Canada's GDP released this morning at 3.7% annualized, but almost entirely supported by Fed government debt spending. It's a ticking economic bomb . . . .

NDP would be more of the same. Debt would keep on climbing and taxes would be through the roof - sending remaining profitable companies running to the US. Too much a touchy/feely party. Don't have the intestinal fortitude to slash and gut spending. That is the responsibility of the Conservative party.

Wow, that's quite a spin-doctor. Are you in oz dorothy? Best roads in the west, smallest deficit in canada, had to pay over 200 billion in transfer pmts. over a ten year period. Your a special kind of special aren't you? And you think the ndp are doing better with huge deficits?

Well, Stone, if you think the debt is totally due to the ND's, then there isn't really nothing more to say to you....If you liked the corruption and nepotism, well...not much I can say. A great run, with no money in the bank, hospitals and schools that were supposed to be built, but never quite got around to it, ....
when corruption happens in 3rd world countries, we call foul...but not if it is our favored party.
Mulroney increased Canada's debt by one of the biggest dollar amounts in Canada's history, but that is likely OK....
Trust me, not really an ND supporter, but definitely not a corrupt government supporter! And no idea at this time who will get my measly little vote next time around, likely not Jason.......
But, that is the beauty here....you can support who you wish.

I don't care who is in power. 70 billion over one term for a province of not quite 4 million is frickin huge. Any responsible person would try to find efficiencies of some kind.

Should be pretty easy if the province was run as poorly as grassy and perfecho says don't you think.

Agreed.....however...you don't think that the ones that left in barren when they had the cash flow should be held accountable?
Lets not forget they started with a budget already in a deficit, took over high expenditures with a lousy inflow of cash...of which none was their doing...
Just wondering if you will be supporting them when/if they do turn this ship around? Somehow I doubt it......

                      Can't wrong province.

You are right I wouldn't anyway. But I think my comment was pretty unbiased. I hate deficits no matter who is in power.
