I want my tombstone to read "Here layes an honest man". I imbibed that from Dad I guess.
With a failing Mother and a sibling in her 30s (im 52), I keep remembering this one. Caveat; I believe we go out as we lived. People dont fundamentally change.
Anyways. Dad was standing in front of hospital one evening having a smoke. (He wasnt in 2 weeks and died).
Driving by I pulled in. He said "come in for a while lets talk". Now, remember we never once ever 'talked'. Not once the L word. Never touched really. Different times and he did good for how he was raised. Grandad was hard on horses and help.
I said "No, I have rocks to pick". I will never forget that life lesson looking back.
Trying to get my siblings to pick less rocks in the weeks ahead.
I now enjoy decent company when i get it. Apple didnt fall far.

Further to that. My kids are still young and I see them seldom. But the most important thing I can do for them is talk.

One important thing Dad's teaches his daughter is how she can expect to be treated in a marriage,..... simply by watching how Dad treats Mom. ‪😊 ‬

4G: "Pay your bills" is some of the best advice a Dad can instil in a child. Skoal to your Dad. 🍻

You've learned to both talk and listen, Blackpowder. Nice combo to have in a friend. Pars

Still work alongside my Dad and hope that can continues for a long time. He has an ability to calm me down when things get rough.

              Even when things are rough:

there's always time to fix things right the first time.

There's always time to make it to important family events.

If you treat old equipment, and family right, they'll pull you through the worst of it.

I've got big shoes to fill, but I hope with his example I can be as good a father to my 2 week old son and 3 year old daughter as he's been to me!

Windfree day. Mother Nature will make me pay for sitting it out but. Took Mother home for possibly last time today. Had all siblings and my 8 yr old daughter around. First Fathers Day I can recall not having mor "important" things to do. It was great.
An unknowing angel showed up without prior knowledge to finish her kitchen reno this am. God sees I guess.
