I don't get it, most on here always say the statistions are liars and now your surprised that wht. is going up? There's problems worldwide that's why wht. is going up. " brag time" I sowed 70% wht. 30% canola, i may have guessed right! Bought futures only contracts yesterday, now it's wait and see how high it will go for next sale. If you wanna look at the neg. that's your choice, i see another excellent opportunity!

We upped our wheat acres and only locked a bit since I missed a target while gone. Good I missed that target.

We have a decent basis for June July to move the last wheat 8:00 it will go.

Yes the market usually is total bull crap..but at least the price is going the right way.
Makes our wheat crop look better than ever now.

plenty of wheat, not so much protein. South Dakota and Montana crop ratings are lousy
          North Dakota only fair.

So if they're paying for protien, have they eased up on grading any high protien wheat that was being down graded on account of fusarium and vomi/DON?

Surprising how tolerances can change and what they'll accept if.......

This may explain things a bit ...

That's what "drought" does for some that have never really experienced it .
Picture from Montana just a few days ago

That what it was like here in 2001 and 2002

There's a BTO who seeded Winter Wheat into an old established hayland last fall,,,, looked about twice as good as that before the life saving rains here. Our spring wheat likely would have lost all it's tillers too....

This time of year 2 years ago I went through the motions of spraying, all the while thinking to myself I had the wrong product in the tank... Rather than thumper and horizon it should have been roundup and heat! Didnt bother to rain until late in the first week of July. 16bu/ac and it had everything short of the kitchen sink thrown at it. Banking got real creative. Some days you found yourself wondering how well a brinks truck was really armoured...

SW of Oyen Ab. '15 was a joke. Mud on the packers and cart tires the whole time we seeded. Turned cool and WINDY immediately after seding. 3/10ths after seeding and it would have been completely different.

Spring wheat is the only major wheat class in the US to show declining stocks for the current crop year.
Put that together with some poor prospects for the 17-18 year production and you have the situation.

This has changed the outlook substantially. Last summer I thought $6 US would be top price for spring wheat for quite a while. Well throw that out. Little resistance on long term charts till $7.25 US in the nearby month. There certainly is not too much downside until crop size is known. 6.05 -6.30 US should be the lowest we see till late August.

One thing is for sure. Excess supplies of spring wheat in North America are disappearing. The forecast for US spring wheat stocks/use at the end of 17-18 could be in the 10-15% area(worst case). Tight.

Canada's 17-18 stocks/use is forecast at 22%. Watch for that to drop in future forecasts.
