No long term experience battling fusarium here.
But there is lots of innoculum around now after the last few years. I wonder how many days with dew/humidity would it take to infect the crop. If moisture hits at the wrong time there may be trouble.
Early wheat just starting to head in the area. The majority of the crop is just coming into flag leaf.

Caseih.....RG1100. And only time we use it's full tank capacity is for fungicide apps to carry the extra water. Otherwise in crop herbicides are applied with 10 gpa its just easier with field sizes(80 acre increments) and chemical packaging sizes to do 80 acres per tank.

Sit tight and look for a set at auction, they're usually sold separate from the sprayer(depending which are on) and you might save some money

Forage is giving sound advice on fungicide re fusarium. Massive amounts of rain are not needed. Warm temps and humidity will ramp up fusarium risk.

An app should be an investment in the crop but like SF3 said it may only be an expense without any real payback.

Is spraying for disease that isn't a real threat a "best management practice"? I don't think we should wear down the already "poor" efficacy of fusarium suppression of the available fungicides.(bit of sarcasm)

Timing of an app is real close on the first seeded wht fields.

In 2015 I didn't spray the durum for fuz. The first seeded stuff went #1. The fields seeded 5 days later where #4. The first seeded durum flowered without rain of dew. The later seeded durum had one night of dew and half a tenth of rain. We had no other rain till July that year. It taught me to always spray wheat for fuz. After last year I think the spore load will be even higher now.

Might of went #4 had you sprayed it as well. Without leaving tests strips how does a guy ever know. I've yet to be impressed. And no I didnt miss the two day window and also used 15gpa with high pressure twins. Grow a healthy crop it wont get sick simple.

Crop is late. Started in the cold mud and now no rain all of June. Earlier seeded canola some uneven and patchy, mid may seeded look ok but behind and later seeded oh that's canola seeded on that field (from the road) and can see the rows. Early fall frost and lots is screwed; some needs all of September for sure. Hardly been a weak canola year here in the last decade except for '12 when the neighbors got the swaths that windy afternoon. This year looks to moderate the average. Should moderate the lineups at Clavet as well.
All other crops look average or less also. Sure, price of wheat improved a bit and reduced per acre yield will keep the return below where it needs to be to make any true profit. 30 bus x $8 vs 50 x $6. Less trucking and storage, and less $- why lock in a loss?
May be too pessimistic but we were due a correction in production.

Who on here said fungus doesn't grow in dust? I would have to agree. I realize the innouclum load could be high given the last few years build up.

Here is the past years cereal rotation on this years wht crop.

One field had wheat on two years ago(15) and before that barley in 2011.

One half section had it on three years ago(14) and wheat in 11.

Another half section had durum in 2013 and before that wheat in 09.

Wheat not every second year like some fields on this farm.

I'd say the biggest contribution to the innoculum load In the land on this farm would have come from growing durum.

Sorry to hijack your crop report SF3....

SASK WHT DELOPMENT COMMISSION, has the whole province of Sask rated at low risk of fusarium headblight for this date. You can plug in your expected heading date but if you go too far out or infection conditions change big time between now and heading even a week away that risk would change.


Present humidity here is just under 70% now....higher than most other mornings but really now dew to speak of or precip(meaningful) for at least two weeks.

SF3 looking for rain. I don't think you have to worry you're a long way from a drought. I think you've had an inch or more of rain so you're sitting pretty.
We've had 9mm May 9, then 10mm Jun 13. Late seeded canola looks like poor summerfallow.
Wheat is hanging. We hope the lentils will make it onto the cutterbar.
Rains are spotty, some have caught an extra shower.
Like my dad used to say 'the difference between a good farmer and a poor farmer is an inch of rain.'

I agree magnum were sitting good now with rain so far and yea dad use to say that all the time. Crops are filling in nice. Just always like 4 one inch rains were almost at the time of the second one. It's like irrigation then.
