    2017 crop....

Our 2017 crop is winding up here. Diquat is here. Machinery pretty much ready to go. Wheat filling. Canola winding up and has absolutely no "mean lean" like it had some years. The two stages of canola growth on our farm shouldn't be too unmanageable, heat and lack of rain brought the two closer together. Even flax has a vague yellow tinge already...lost that dark green color in some places of the fields. We started harvest on desiccated peas in 2015 on August 1st .....no way this year. Absolutely no crop lodging....at all! Maybe if a hard rain with wind came it would push over headlands and afew good low spots in wheat and knock over the peas. At this point the crop is looking a bit better than 2015, but a lot poorer than last year.

The undergrowth I was concerned about that germinated(volunteer grain and weeds) from the mid June rain is STRUGGLING to compete with the crop that keeps digging deeper and deeper for limited moisture. What an interesting year to say the least.

We all take our turn having a shitty crop..Some to dry..some to wet..some get bombed by hail..
Here and farther north crops look OK..to good.but later than normal..so no guarantee yet..potential but early frost and harvest could be zip.
Neighbor combining his last yrs canola..something we have never seen before.

        2017 crop

Our crops are hanging in there, this year so far is the least amount lost to excess moisture in 7 years, looking forward to harvesting a crop end to end. Have just started cutting 2nd cut alfalfa, need rain to start 3rd cut
