....we're Invigor people...a barrel per 80 acres, finish odd acres with jugs...no leftovers.....simple for us.
I doubt Bayer or Monsanto would use the quality of barrel they are if they weren't re-usable...remember I'm assuming.

Our retailer keeps track of returnable totes and barrels going out on load out slips and coming back as a "return" on load out slips. Then invoices reflect those slips. In most cases the totes and barrels are returned before monthly statements are paid. Of course its always a wash, even if it takes two statement months.

      .....here anyway.

Are Dow's Octane barrels comparable to Bayer's and Monsanto's? Do you keep the Octane barrels?

I do like barrels for eyeballing quantity. Never can trust the raven flow meter always needs recalibrating based on viscosity it seems. Pumping it into the chem handler works well but takes too much time. Some plastic barrels are tippy though.

I think all barrels are pretty standard a vent, and a screw off cap where a one inch male cam fitting screws into the suction tube. I rinse'em and do not keep'em.

I have a friend involved with the the recylcling of the jugs in Saskatchewan and they are all incinerated now. They used to be recycled but about 5 years ago that got changed. There is just too many labels and residue left in the jugs to be made into something else. Reminds me of the story of the school kids recycling the juice boxes just to find them dumped in the landfill.

Actually they've always been mostly burned. CropLife used to present fancy reports at meetings that were supposed to show that the returned jugs were being turned into curb stops or some other equally useless purpose. But if you read the report closely there was always a large portion of the jugs that were used for "heat generation". Figure it out for yourself.

The whole jug return program was a cluster####. The logical way to do it was with a limited number of controlled sites in conjunction with manned landfills. By the early 90's that system was largely in place but doing it that way meant that the manufacturers had to write a cheque to the provinces to fund the system. By dumping the job back on the retail chain the mfrs dodged any financial or liability responsibility for the returned jugs.

                Well that is just annoying.

I understand the importance of thorough rinsing if people are going to have to handle these things or the fact you paid good money for the pesticide and want it all in the spray tank.

I thought they bragged about the high return rates.

As I said, I find it hard to believe any recycling program isn't creating a larger environmental footprint than using the "alternative" way of dealing with the "waste".

We saw first hand the Assiniboia tire recycling project..... mothballed with a small mountain of tires sitting there. A fire guard is worked around part of the property to hopefully keep any potential fires from reaching the pile. I think the community sees this as a huge safety hazard, if that pile of tires ever started to burn... yikes.

When the society you live is classified as "consumer"..... AND DISPOSABLE......

How many "tire recycling" projects have been mothballed around the country. A local one shredded millions of tires into a defunct pellet plant shed. Waiting for the day when she catches fire. No fire breaks and people live close. Lot of these recycling programs are a joke. Like computers being shipped off to the 3rd world for children to break apart for precious metals, these programs are more about good optics of making an effort to be green but not practical in the real sense.

This appears to be 100% true.

We burn everything here. Chem jugs, net wrap, silage plastic, and everything else that will burn before going to the transfer station 25km away and then it ends up handled again and going 200 km to the dump. I'm doing it to save the county money..... not that I'm lazy and don't think more fuel should be burned on moving trash.

We do recycle tires here and without any government $$$.

And they're filled with water. Natural fire protection 😉

Also there's three power plants within 10 miles of me burning millions of tonnes of coal a year.

Here's one behind our pasture. Leaves me feeling like anything good I do is negated before I even do it.

Or else there's the flare burning at the gas plant two miles south. When it gets going good at night I don't need lights on in the living room......
