Well this week had some very nice hot day that allowed the crop to advance after the rain event last wed morning. This week we went back to the blocking pattern and received mist and minor rain and more mist and fog. For grass ill count these as 2 tenths plus last weeks 8 tenths and 1.75 before were now at 2.75. a Shower that doesn't even show up in the gauge in a hot july and doesn't even settle the dust for more that 1 hour is not a rain.
So our idiot in Ottawa is spending and spending and showing his socks to the world but yet in BC he wants us to donate and he will match to help. Those that voted for this mess i wish you would have to clean it up when its done a special tax to all his supporters. But sadly its the working class that again will have to pay for a Trudeaus fun loving sunny ways.
Trump is going after Kim and if China and him want a real harmony in the world i think i would take him out together.
But its a crop report not a Troll report or Political post.
HRS is advancing fast and we will be starting to spray round up on fields next week. No one really swaths in our area wheat so most will be doing the same. Some early wheat is sprayed closer to the valley. The later is filling rather nice now since the last rain. It might have been just in time for some fields to add some yield others that were burnt to a crisp will just fill and thats it. So my guess when you go over the whole farm probably 75% of last year as later are coming real nice now.
Peas are desiccated and some neighbours fields will probably go tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Our first should be ready Tuesday next week or Thursday. One farm did have a freak hail and it did do some damage. My favourite bird that i would love to get rid of the Goose is having some fun around a few larger soughs that are almost dry. Wildlife program will be used. They could get rid of this huge problem with a spring and fall season. Just saying if you let rat population get out of control and do nothing you get Alberta under nut case.
Barley the later fields will definitely do way better than the early seeded as damage did happen the last monday before the rain. They simply ran out of water. Thin heads and totally ready to do some thing but with on and off rain it will be tough. No three to four day window. Later is good and could surprise.
Oats some got cooked like the barley but later and oats on heavy land did come through and looks good.
Soy is struggling this year and looks to finally be at mid July point. Ah its mid august. So the jury is still out time will tell but if a long fall some soy could out yield the early canola. Could with a long drawn out fall. Could. Well see. Kind of glad i didn't seed this year. But one note their are two new varieties that pod higher and look better and actually might work great for next year and on. Maybe they finally got their.
Corn jumped with rain and if its silage looks good rest looks better but late.
Canola seems to be the one crop that just couldn't get the heat right. Yea i said the new varieties were created in the wet years nothing like we had this year. Some did well some did great or good and some did piss poor. Early seeded is all over the map as the final week of hot dry weather kind of set up for lower yields the later looks good and is filling since the rain but will need some time before ready. It looks better but I'm still sticking to half the crop as early is poor later is better not excellent.
Pastures got hit hard the last week before the rain and aren't recovering that well. No second cut here this year. Late seeded green feed on two half sections i drive by is actually looking real nice.
Every one is out working areas that were flooded for years and dry with either a mower or deep tillage or kelly or pro till or what ever. Were using a Deere 9520 pulling a 30ft DT. Hey it doesn't get stuck.
So to sum up our area it will be just below average across the board. Still have something not bad to harvest but yields will not be near last few years. Kind of like a flood year where areas of your field were gone from the rains and you drove through mud with header up and then hit a excellent area. Well some hills of flats that are lighter you'll giver with piss all coming in then hit a great area to make up the difference. But sadly that won't cover the shitty area. As a example for the trolls that are already doing the new math 10 quarters of wheat that went in wet and had issues with rain below average yield and 10 quarters that were later not as much mud and better ground just below average to average. You get the picture.
Yes their is something to harvest and the rain did help a lot on later seeded and even early as whats their will fill.
No Bumper but still thankful we have something to take off.
So enjoy the early harvest if its like the flood years we experienced you know already where your final number will be just from road side driving plan for the winter should start now. Prices will help but wait the reports will show Manitoba is so huge crops it will make up for all the wrecks in western Canada. News at 11. Oh they have what 18% of all the farm land. Must be 250 canola and 300 wheat. But hey thats Canada with bull shit reporting all way from the top down. Farmers are always last.
Take care out their and remember the ones at home are way more important than any Crop.
