    Holodomor

We have all heard of the Holocaust. But have you heard of HOLODOMOR? 4 million people were starved to death by the Soviet Communist regime. Farmers were made to produce food, and then it was taken from them with nothing left to feed their own families. If you were caught "hoarding", you were shot. Today, August 23, is Black Ribbon Day to commemorate the victims of Nazi and Soviet Communist crimes.

I've read estimates that are higher. And these are just Ukrainian deaths over a couple years. A cleansing by starvation. An awful lot more were starved to death by Stalin overall.
But really nothing new I suppose.
Funny, I heard his statues still stand in Russia??

The a Confederacy was mostly about economics and autonomy. The US Government tried to exterminate Native Americans. Does anyone ever acknowledge that? Is there a Red Lives Matter movement and would it ever gain traction in the media?

A lot of the world cheered when a black man was in the White House. Would a Sioux from Pine Ridge even be allowed to run?

Bad things happen. Sometimes unspeakable and inhuman. Remembering is important. Acknowledging all is paramount.

True ,but we don't need statues of people who have done horrible things.

Bad stuff I agree. If the indian was part jewish he might have a chance at the presidency. At the least there would be a movie made about it. Money gets there attention and jews have it or their connections make it easier to publicize these issues.

Ten million Ukrainians starved by Stalin the butcher in the 1930s. Yes Hitler was evil, but Stalin puts him to shame. Putin is following in his footsteps, first by taking Crimea and now working on Eastern Ukraine! History does repeat!

Braveheart, yes first nations peoples have suffered immensely but there comes a time when they must make more of an effort better themselves. The first thing they must do is hold their chiefs and councils more accountable. Where are the billions going each year?

Not a fan of Chretien but when "Indian Affairs" cabinet minister he TRIED to get rid of the Indian Act and reserves, in the 70's, that would help them immensely, own your home, fix your home, mortgage your home etc.,.. responsibility leads to self reliance...lets hope things get better

On our own Canadian soil I believe we are approaching or maybe even in the early stages of turning the corner....but it will take decades, even generations.

There are some fundamental changes that need to be made. There are now some opportunities where before I would say absolutely none existed. It will get better.

So true Braveheart, I am sure it is disheartening to beg and plead with no chance of getting your share -ever! Somehow I figure we owe much more to better the life of aboriginals rather than border-jumpers. All the money thrown at people that never aspire to assimilate versus native population who can't visualize a way to get ahead because the cards are stacked against them.

From what I understand the people of Crimea want out of the control of Ukraine. They are historically Russians, and after the US did their regime change in Ukraine and put in their puppet man the Crimeans said enough we want out and then the civil war started.

Not to minimize the tragedy in Ukraine, but it was not limited to Ukraine, it happened all over the Russian FSR on an unimaginable scale as well. And so far as I know, there is only one Stalin statue left standing in Russia, they have been gone for decades. Russian's consider him to be a monster just like the rest of the world does. Lenin is still standing in every town square though.

Have the millions that have died at the hands of socialism taught us nothing? We have a segment of society that is now rewriting history.

With all the political correctness and 'democratic socialism', I fear we are on a slippery slope.
