RMs shifting tax burden on farm land, and reduced taxation on homes in town. in mb we pay school taxes on every quarter. some real big farmer probably funding majority of their local school's budget. fair tax policy?

I guess a six and a half percent increase on an already reasonable municipal tax rate didn't catch my attention at first glance....but the school tax increase is kind of steep.
The school tax bill is a small portion of the total tax bill.

It sounds like some RM's have a council spending like drunken sailors if its going up 15-30%.

In all fairness to this one we had a lot of damage from the flood last year and the 42" rain and they have only recd a small portion of the money promised from pdap so far . As i said before one bridge repair was half a million

O88.....our school taxes are about half of what the municipal tax is.

Our best "assessed" is 196700 and this year's municipal tax is $355.93 and school tax is $154.70. And is all down hill from there for assessments.

Assessments are guides only! No one knows the land better than local residents. I can tell you fj, I have some stuff I wished I didn't have and more of some other stuff I have, but that's everybody. We're kinda rolling and high and dry....hill tops can be stingy. Some bad sand patches...but if there are patches of sand you know what the basic soil texture is of that land. We have a mixed bag of tricks here and I've seen alot better and alot worse....but farming it is all I know. I know it's limitations, it's strong points and it's weaknesses....I just accept it for what it is!

And I've warned the apprentice too! No sense lying to the kid. He saw a really good one in 16 and a couple of poor ones on either side....good reality check!

In this day and age with nearly everyone having a smart phone why can't the people vote live on tax increases? We don't even need politicians as technology is our voice
