Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Thanks furrow.

Last year the only combining we did was 2 days in September, 2 days in October, 1 day in November and 3 days in December. Ended up using the disc on half the crop in the spring and harrowed the canola on June 5.

Didn't have production insurance but had lack of moisture coverage as I thought that was our biggest risk so no crop insurance payout. This year we maxed out the all risk coverage and it has taken most of the anxiety away as long as I'm not the only one that gets snowed under. We need probably three weeks of decent weather for everyone to get wrapped up here. Kinda seems like a long shot since this was the same field (almost the exact same spot) on October 5 last year.

Boy woodland is that crop ever green. Was that taken in the last day or so? Heavy too! My goodness it will have to lay there for a while to cure. ....hope you get a long open fall where you are.

Some on here will be with you then they will challenge you its not that bad and after years of dealing with the ugly weather when it finally is a year to celebrate they attack you.

Weather sets up for some areas and just knocks the shit out of it. South of our main town they had awesome years the rain events started their but picked up as they headed to foam lake area and beyond then some times turned around and headed back but stopped or ended before hitting their.

This year north of town is pulling off some amazing things but the rain events finally stopped and wow normal is here.

Getting 20 or 30 inches of rain wasn't normal for sask but it did happen and flooding of big quill happened and so did all the other flooding.

This year was needed to get land back into production after all the shitty years.

Here is a funny fact what if this year is repeated for the next ten will we be saying again the SW should not grow grain and be sent back to pasture and cattle.

I won't every be on saying that because were all farmers and one thing is certain in Canada ok maybe two Trudeau's will F#$K up this country and so will our weather make or Take farmers.

Down to 1400 acres but my fall rain event maybe is coming.

Great first picture at the beginning of the tread. Lining up all four combine and the two semis. Taking time out of your busy schedule to place all the equipment in order just so that everything fits in the picture. Breathtaking!!! Then there's the picture of the so called drought stricken canola swaths!

Just wondering, do you really think this is beneficial to other farmers who may be suffering from a true drought and dealing with financial hardship because of it . Not to mention what the trade and government agencies think, "drought what drought look at the swaths".

No different then when you called out other farmers from Manitoba for stating what their yields were to the media during harvest!

In either case, it's out there for the public!

If you want to see what true drought looks like look at page 5 of this weeks Western Producer. We had a leaner crop than I'd like but under the circumstances our wheat did ok... not so much the flax, canola and peas though, but it still could have been worse.

....will be watching the radar and satellite imagery closely over the next three or so days. I hope we get slammed by this low pressure system that is supposedly coming out way.

Seems to be a lack of sympathy and empathy by some.... it's all about me! Too bad everyone couldn't get what they "want". I'll deal with what I "get".

We always park the combines like that at night seems most farmers do oh I’m bad.

Manitoba would need yields in the 100
Plus at 15% of countries canola acres to make up for the shortfall in west.

Just sick and tired ..... like everyone else of the complaining and whining. We are all "*****" for voicing our opinions, but I personally don't give a rats ass. Sk3 I sure hope you get your last 3 inches to give you 4 before fall, because of the obvious.
My farm hasn't seen a meaningful rain in almost a yr. Had 7 tenths all yr but those were little shots here and there when the crop was past the point.
Most are hoping for a big one starting tomorrow, let it come. I wish everyone was done but we can't turn down a rain when I've forgotten what it looks like.

Big z the last fifteen years how were your crops?

Since 2010 up till this yr we have been wet. I can't remember the yr but we seeded just over half the acres. Sure we got paid the "too wet to seed acres", but still didn't make up for the potential of having a good crop. I never did once bring up those years and bitch and complain. I did pull pull of some mammoth crops in the past few yrs, quality maybe wasn't the best but had bushels.
2004 we were hit with a major frost, like most were, another tough one to take. But again it's in the past, if I had to think back to everything that went wrong I would likely not be farming.
I planted my 31st crop this yr, lost my dad 6.5 years ago, so have had to deal with adversities myself.
There are good years and bad, that's the way it is. Every occupation is in the same boat. Yes, sometimes it can be the best of us that's our nature. We are all in a very expensive business and can't afford to have things go wrong, but sometimes that's the cards we are dealt with.
My crop wasn't the best, but I've come to realize there's worse out there. Cutbacks may have to be made. We will make it to put a crop in 18, mine main concern at this point is moisture, like most.

Thanks for explaining it’s farming in canada if it was easy most would do it. Yea I take each year to heart I really do love what I do. The one thing I can’t control is the weather and it gets me down. Maybe that’s why I like hawaii same temp every day and we’re on the dry side of the island.

But honestly this year looked like biggest crop ever coming then the July rain got close hit a Few farms but missed a few. Funny how Mother Nature works so yea the drought helped our area a lot.

We’re back and I’m finally had a happy harvest.

That picture was from yesterday. It's not all that heavy and green. There's lots burnt off and drowned out areas too.



Some spots are hardly worth cutting like this hillside in today's field.

Just started the furthest along wheat and it's 22%. I guess our old POS dryer is going to have a workout this year. I said when we were seeding that I doubted we'd be combining in September....... I guess I was wrong by one day. 👍

Good grass country out there though, that's what it grows best. Sure noticed the difference when I moved down here - guys combining spring wheat in the first week of August instead of the first week of October!

Rained us out last night. Down to 8 quarters dryer cleaned greased and ready to go.

On the last 1000 acres before hopefuly the rain hits. Now just dry from last nights showers.

Those are some pretty nice swathes SF3. Started raining at 9 pm here and is supposed to switch to snow overnight. At least the rain should hold the swathes from blowing away in the 80km+ winds tonight. The barley looks dry from the road but there is lots of green seeds yet.



This field was so wet on June 15 that we floated the seed on to sprayed out fescue sod and harrowed it in. The 875 versatile couldn't pull the 50' heavy harrows ( kept sinking) so we put the 855 challenger on them and my brother would throw rooster tails when he turned. The old neighbor stopped and said "there's now way that's going to turn out!" I didn't think it was going to either but it's fenced (and along the highway of course😉) so the cows could have ate the evidence if that's the way it went.



Three passes of the harrows and you couldn't tell it was sod. Quite the crazy year.
