Free market conservatives: Create conditions so the rich can get richer and the poor poorer. Give benefits, tax breaks, and subsidies to your wealthy business supporters. Then blame the poor for their problems and not working hard enough!

Equalization is a federal program paid for with federal taxes collected from all Canadians. It can be tweaked but the overall policy goal is good for the country. Without it we become a country of extreme differences in the ability of provinces to provide health care, education and other social programs. It would make many Canadians second class citizens in terms of the services they receive. Do you think that is a good idea?

No it doesn't. It results in a country where the free market forces are allowed to work. The mobile workforce moves to where the jobs are at. This lowers the cost of labor in the productive markets due to increased supply, and likewise, by lowering supply in the depressed areas, will increase wages, equalizing the markets in real time, and in response to market forces. This artificial equalization just creates false incentives which only require further equalization to keep the ball rolling.

Equalization does two things:

1) Removes any incentive for a province to be a productive province.
Example: Quebec does NOT promote oil pipelines and has blocked the development of their own resources.

2) Creates creative accounting and special formulas to benefit select provinces.
Example: Quebec has hydroelectric power generation removed from equalization formula.

Free markets are no longer.....Cons/Libs....government, no matter which....pick winners and losers....it is now free monopoly, no restrictions on size, no restrictions whoever can buy out competition...just look at previous posts about no competition in grain buying,,,,,,the system needs a new model,,,,and really, it doesn't matter which government, they are virtually the same.
