Looks like a brilliant business move that will save Canadian jobs.

Some of you guys were so happy when the US was announced 200 then 300% import duties. This gives the C Series potential access duty free to the US market plus greater access to all world markets.

All aerospace manufacturers get big subsidies from respective governments. Good or bad that is the world we live in. Would you rather Bombardier goes broke and all those jobs disappear? No Conservative or Liberal government wants that to happen.

The Fraser Institute study on subsidies showed Alberta and Saskatchewan get lots of business subsidies as well. Saskatchewan gets more than Quebec per capita!

Saskatchewan GDP has also doubled. Quebec barely keeps up to national average...

You're right aerospace gets subsidies... However bombardier isn't an aerospace company they doddle in a bunch of stuff and none is done well.

Plus how many jobs do you think will stay in Canada. Airbus is a very efficient, capable, and stable company with vastly better resources and facilities. The C series will get built in Alabama.

Nothing wrong with a partnership. However when half of the project belongs to the governments and the other half was given away for free to Airbus... Unless you don't have a grasp of math there is no way to see this as being a bet benefit to Canada.

Bombardier will go the way of Nortel and RIM. just with a lot more government money because it's in Quebec.

300% duties do seem extreme until you realize that is what is keeping US dairy products out of the Canadian market. Will not be saving Canuckistanian jobs because what are the Unifor hacks in Toronto and Montreal going to be doing now? Collecting pogey.

So you are okay with subsidies as long as it shows benefits in jobs and GDP?

Both Saskpower and Sasktel are public crown corporations. Both have done a good job in keeping rates low and providing a decent service. So government partnership or ownership is not a problem for most in Saskatchewan.

In Alberta early on the government invested heavily in research and development of the oil sands and provided low royalty rates. Was that a good investment when many of the players are foreign owned multinationals?

I think what is at play here is hate for Quebec because of politics. It is not about subsidies to Bombardier because western businesses get subsidies too. It is about petty partisan politics as Quebec like it or not is a political force in Canada. Western far right Conservatives hate Quebec because they are an impediment to their political views and aspirations and have a differing world view.

Politics is about compromise. Andrew Scheer made it clear he wants to move away from the extremists in the party because he can't get elected under that. The far right echo chamber here on Agriville is not representative of much, except an angry bunch who lost the last election and cant get over it. I don't expect much objectivity from an angry mob.

Chuck bombardier didn't even need that subsidy they got which triggered all of this.
And you are right on one thing there is zero point running federally if your just going to sit and scream how bad Quebec is and then end up with every single person out west voting to be the opposition party. And no votes anywhere else in the country.
If Andrew is taking the approach you mentioned then he has a good start at being successful. We all have to give and take but we can't always be giving also.

Just to let you know, I have been called a red Tory because I like to call a spade a spade. I have witnessed people of every political stripe call out every party for their trangressions, no favourite here.

                  Politics is about compromise. Hmm!

                  Therefore cc. can't be political.

He has indicated he will not compromise.

Let's just leave it that way

all those federal subsidies gone to jobs in the USA. what a mess. I guess this means more federal transfer payments to Quebec for the lost jobs.

So to summarize the Bombardier C Series is now:

                      European owned
                      Built in Alabama
                      Subsidized by Canadian taxpayers

                      Oh Trudeau.....what a genius. 🙈
