    Loss of life

So sad to to hear of Mr. Hargrave. Thoughts and prayers to his family. A man helping others paying the supreme price.
Here in Manitoba my sons in laws had to move 200 pairs, one of the neithbours lost a bull and a few head. They're trying to get a carcass count done. But as small loss in comparison.

Sumdum If you are willing to pay probably 4x what you are paying now for power yes it can be undergrounded, then there are line hits that are mostly fatal, and any under ground maintance is very expensive, but I don't suppose you relay thought about costs but when you get your bill you will squeal rea; loud.

Line loss becomes substantial as well. Underground lines will run warmer than they do above ground thereby increasing resistance. Only way to overcome the problem is to oversize an underground cable. Larger cable to supply the same amount of power further increases cost. Above ground is an uninsulated line as well compared to underground which must be jacketed.

I think ours went underground in the early Eighties. We have our own line off the three phase with no one else on it and its about a mile and a half long....has been zero maintenance(touch wood).

Not sure if I'm reading you right , but overhead line hits are nearly always fatal , underground are not . It shorts to groundwhich is where it's trying to go . We were lucky here , grant Devine put ours underground . You see , he had a vision for the future . We don't have a power line in any of our land or yard . Pretty thankful . A neighbour lost his life here a year ago when his sprayer boom contacted an overhead line . In contrast , sask energy crew hit main power line in our yard when working on a gas line . All there was was a bang and a little smoke , didn't even hurt trencher

Did you get both gas and power buried in the 80's? We only got gas, power stopped UNDER the NDP, just a few miles west of us.

Dad never opted for the Nat gas service.... I was too young to understand the ramifications of that decision and now understand it was a huge mistake not taking it. A new service was quoted at a bit over $30,000!

Yea we did , good conservative riding , lol. But we didn't take dryer gas right away got it about 20 years ago . It was still quite reasonable . Sask energy wants $60 k for a friend to go 3/4 mile

Well...maybe if with proper supervision it was allowed to create your own 3 foot deep chain trench
and maybe if you could buy a 4000 foot reel of yellow one inch gas line for 75censt to a low eighty cents ... then maybe it wouldn't have to cost 15,000 to 30,000 dolars and up for a household shop service.

And for the creatures who would and do deny others an extension to "their" gas line that crosses multiple other people's property....congratulations for your narrow self interests.

And maybe if the local controllers of public road ditches (otherwise known as RM councils) would cooperate by using their moral suasion; and support use of road ditches to bypass those who exercise their "property rights"... then just maybe a bit of common sense and reasonableness could be shown.

Of course right now not everyone is in that predicament... so why would most persons offend those who are root causes of problems and obstacles.
